Students wanting to join our Sixth Form must have achieved or be likely to achieve at least six GCSE passes (A* – C grade), ideally with B grades in the subjects they wish to study at AS Level. We are selective only in the sense that we aim to choose the students we believe will get the most out of everything the school has to offer and who in turn we can best help to achieve their potential.
Entrance interviews and exams
All candidates registered for entry into Year 12 by mid-October are called for interview with the Headmaster and Head of Sixth Form. Scholarship candidates will also be called for an audition and interview with the relevant head of department.
For entry to the Sixth Form in September 2017, the main entrance process will take place in early November.
The entrance exams comprise a 30-minute general paper and three 20-minute questions to be answered in the subjects of each student’s choice. (Students do not have to take their exams in the same subjects they wish to study at AS Level.) They will also be asked to complete an on-line standardised test.
Scholarship students sit the 30-minute general paper and one 60-minute paper for which there is a choice of subjects for students applying for an Academic Scholarship or a subject-specific paper for students applying for a Scholarship in art, dance, drama, music, photography and sport. Candidates will also be asked to complete an on-line standardised test.
Admissions procedures for late candidates (after November 2016)
If places remain available after the November exams, individual candidates will be invited in for interview and to sit the entrance exams on a mutually convenient date.
