THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM
Friday 1st July, 2022
A MESSAGE FROM NICK OT
Dear Parents,
I'm writing this at the end of the Move-Up Afternoon yesterday and buzzing after seeing all the children and parents in one place, socialising and enjoying the sun and space of Main Lawn. I hope you and your child had a great experience today (Year 6’s move-up day being on Monday 4th July) and want to thank you for welcoming the new faces of both children and parents so warmly and with the usual Frensham spirit.
The Move-Up Afternoon represents the start of a final week of events where The Spirit of Togetherness will be at the forefront of all we do in the Junior School. Next stop is Founders' Day on Saturday and then onwards to a fun fuelled final week before our End of Year Celebration Assembly on Thursday. This will be the first time we have held this event on the last day and you are all invited! The assembly will be a showcase of music and performance across the Junior School and will run from 8.45am to 10am in the Aldridge Theatre. Please do head toward the theatre after morning drop off where some tea, coffee and pastries will be waiting for you!
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Parent Reps of the Junior School who I have very much enjoyed working alongside this term. They create a very strong and effective communication bridge between the Junior School and our parents and do a wonderful and greatly appreciated job. I very much look forward to connecting with them and yourselves further through Parent Voice and Junior School focused meetings in the Autumn Term 2022.
Have a lovely Friday evening and I look forward to seeing you all at Frensham tomorrow for our Founder’s' Day.
Take care and have fun!

COMPANIES WANTED FOR FRENSHAM CAREERS FAIR
In November, we’re looking to host a careers fair which will help our students gather information and explore future career opportunities.
At the fair, companies will set up stalls so students can informally approach lots of different employers and talk to them personally. This is a great way for students to experience a wide range of businesses in their local community and for businesses to begin to build their talent pipeline.
We want to encourage our Year 10, Year 11, and Sixth Formers to come along and ask questions (with their parents, too), as well as extending our work in the local community by inviting other schools nearby to attend.
But we need companies who would be willing to set up a stand and spend a day talking to our students.
This all-day event is scheduled for Thursday, 24th November 2022, and we’d be delighted to hear from you, your company, your clients, and a friends’ company. Email Lyall to start the conversation.
UKRAINIAN BURSARY APPEAL
Our Ukrainian Bursary Appeal is still open for anyone who wishes to donate to it. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of some members of our community. This is allowing us to really provide the extra support that these children may need. If you are interested in helping us please follow this link: https://oldfrenshamians.org/supportus
A current parent who has already generously donated made this comment: “Our contribution feels like a drop in the ocean but together with other Frensham families, we hope to make a difference for future students who don't have the choices our children are given. To gift an education and encourage a future of possibilities and opportunities is the least we can do.”
SECOND-HAND PE KIT
FOF are collecting for a second-hand PE kit sale, please leave any donations in the box in the entrance to Main House Reception.
INDIVIDUAL MUSIC LESSONS
As the end of the academic year is drawing to an end, we just wanted to let you know that if your child is having individual music lessons with us, unless you have already given us a full half term’s notice, then they will continue to be scheduled for lessons to start again in September.
For anyone considering lessons for the new academic year, we offer a veritable choice: Guitar (classical and electric); ukulele; flute; clarinet; saxophone; drums; voice (musical theatre, rock and pop, classical); violin; viola; trumpet and piano! So why not join us………… We’re planning on doing another Famous Frensham Musical in the not too distant future too, so this could be your child’s chance at their first glimpse of fame! Not to mention joining in with our ensembles, band or just jamming in the music school atrium!
PARENT REPS NEEDED
Parent Voice are seeking two new reps to join their volunteer team to cover Boarding and current Year 10 (so will be in Year 11 from Sept) starting in the Autumn Term.
Becoming a rep is a positive way to get involved at Frensham.
Parent Voice is made up of volunteers whose role is to provide a point of contact for feedback, to represent wider parent views fairly and without bias, provide help on general issues and develop opportunities to collaborate with parents and staff to support the joint interests of the school community. Click here to find out more.
For more information and to put yourself forward, please contact:
We'd also like to welcome new N&R rep Manga Tharma to the group. Starting in September.
SCL SUMMER CAMP
SCL holiday camp is running at Frensham again over the summer holidays. There is also a 10% early bird discount included with this flyer.

THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM
YEAR 13 PROM
Year 13 celebrated the end of their time here at Frensham in fitting style. There was a stella Prize-Giving awards ceremony with wonderfully curated certificates as well. This beautiful send off was all organised by the Sixth Form Committee (Henry, Alan , Monty, Lara, Bethany and Sophia).

YEAR 11 PROM
Our Year 11 Prom was a fitting celebration of everything that has been achieved this year. It was a chance for our students to let their hair down, soak up the beautiful setting and feel rewarded for their hard work

YEAR 7 ECO DAYS
Year 7 were off timetable for their second Eco Day this Wednesday. The aim of these days is to get our students learning outdoors and instill a respect and appreciation for our environment. Students completed 3 activities throughout the day that complimented the Year 7 Science and Geography curriculums this term. These have followed themes of conservation, waste and climate change.
The woodland bug surveys gave students an opportunity to collect and identify the insects and molluscs in the litter layer of our woods, doing this on an annual basis allows us to monitor the biodiversity of our woods. The nutrient cycling session led to an outpouring of creative expression as students performed an explanation of the process using the resources available in the woods (the nutrient cycle group also aged our trees). Litter picking proved a popular option, students were amazed by how much had been dropped since our last big pick a year ago and it really got them thinking about the disposal of waste at school and at home. This session also gave them the opportunity to input into the Eco Action Plan for the school allowing students to have a voice in the sustainable future of the school.

FARNHAM YOUTH CHOIR
Barnaby Yr 7 was involved in a Farnham Youth choir workshop event this week at the Farnham Maltings working with a couple of local primary schools to share the joys of singing and teaching some songs. A really lovely bit of team and community work.

RUNNING CLUB
A huge show of resilience in the rain from Wataru and Fran today at running club, supporting each other to run 5 K again!!

MAIN HOUSE
Relaxing at the end of busy days.

THIS WEEK'S SPORTS REPORT
Junior School Spirts Day (Year 1-6)
On Monday we held the junior school sports day. On a showery day we managed to get in going and by the end the sun was shining and the rain at the start was very much forgotten! Students participated in all events and demonstrated fantastic competition, support of others and the courage to get involved. Thank you so much to all the parents who attended it was fantastic when everybody came together at the end to congratulate the children on a fantastic afternoon. Enjoy the photos!

Senior School Sports Day
On Tuesday it was the final sports day of the year and the turn of the senior school. I different format for the senior school who all work together in house teams’ pre-event to organise who will take part in the multiple activities. As well as the traditional track and field events we showcased inter house tournaments in Netball and Football which were a huge success!
The grand finale was the tug of war which was a fantastic way to close sports day, great competition, team work and support created a fantastic atmosphere. Congratulations to the parents who got involved and destroyed the teacher’s team in the final event of the day!
A final congratulations to everybody in Douglas House who took the overall victory this year! Well deserved with some impressive performances throughout and great teamwork.

A big thank you to Jonny S for the drone footage and our A Level photography students for photos.
Students v Staff Hockey Match
On Thursday evening the Hockey rematch took place and it was another thrilling encounter. A reminder that earlier in the year it finished in a very competitive 2-2 draw. This game was equally as entertaining. A new addition to the teacher’s team was an excellent find, securing a goal and assist in his forward position non-other than Headmaster Rick who dusted off his hockey stick to join the teacher team. A 3-1 half time lead was impressively pulled back by the students and unbelievably in the closing stages managed to secure yet another draw, it finished 3-3 so another game next term will need to be arranged!! Well done to everybody involved!

Sporting Success
Congratulations to Morley Pendred who has been selected to join the Team GB Rowing Team, a fantastic achievement! Morley will soon be heading to France to compete as a Team GB athlete and we wish his every success in his next step of his rowing journey!
