A MESSAGE FROM RICK
Dear Parents
I am keeping my message brief to you today as I have written an important letter to all senior school parents following some presentations we did to students this week. I do hope that you find these letters informative and helpful.
I want to thank Nick and the Junior School leadership team for an excellent Junior School Town Hall event this week. It was informative and exciting to see the plans the staff have for your children, and I hope that the parents who attended enjoyed the event. There will be another one early next term: details of this will be sent out at the beginning of next term.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Best wishes
Rick

THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM
CHANGE IS GONNA COME - A CONCERT FOR UKRAINE
Thank you to everyone who came to the concert on Saturday. They raised around £1,350 for Disasters Emergency Committee to aid relief in Ukraine. Here's some lovely feedback from the event:
"The whole show was so much fun, and the tech problem made everything more interesting 😂 thank goodness for Peer because I've learnt how to deal with technical issues! It was also down to you making me laugh from offstage! I didn't imagine that I'd perform at Frensham again, being on the stage brought back a lot of happy memories and I'd love to do it again. Also, Mum told me that she thought Cael sounded like Herb Alpert!"
"Thank you Lynn for all your hard work yesterday. Oliver really enjoyed it and we hear the concert was a great success."
"I hope you managed to get some rest today!
I just wanted to say thank you so much to you and to Frensham for wholeheartedly supporting the concert for Ukraine last Saturday."
"It was a really special event and it was fantastic to see so many young people performing together from local communities as well as our Ukrainian community."
"Ella was so happy that the concert was a success and that it was so well attended. I think we collectively raised in the region of £1500! A special mention must go to the new theatre director, Justin and to Lynn for all the extra time they put into rehearsing the acts and helping everyone."
"It was a wonderful evening and one that I will always remember."

YEAR 7 CREATIVE WRITING
Our Year 7 students have started three-part series of experiences to give them imaginative ways of engaging with their felt sense through exploring the presence of imagery and the trees in the school grounds and then express their experiences through collage and haiku poetry.
This morning, they enjoyed a creative writing class using the presence of nature and trees as a focal point. Channelling feelings from immersing themselves in the canopy of the oak tree and the stunning views from Main House, students were asked to consider and interpret their sensory, body and mind memories, in the form of collaging. Next week, they will use these collages to compose poetry about their tree-inspired feelings.

YEAR 4 TOPIC & SCIENCE
This week we have been delving deeper into our topic of WW2 and the children experienced a mock blitz, where they had to black-out the windows and find shelter during the raids. In Science the children were discovering about teeth. They had a brilliantly fun interactive lesson comparing animal teeth to humans’ and trying to work out what diet the animal would have based on their types of teeth.

MAIN HOUSE BOARDERS
Our Year 11 Main House boarders took some down time after their mocks to play cards and just relax.

YEAR 1 ART & TOPIC
This term the children have been looking at the topic ‘Frozen Planet’ in Year One. As part of our work we have been studying the work of an artist called Nerys Levy. We have created our own work using the same colours and have started to create collages based on her work. Our classroom looks beautiful!

YEAR 5 FOSSILS
As part of our English unit, we made ammonite fossils using salt dough to identify their shape.
Children thoroughly enjoyed the experience of creating their own fossils. It helped them relate to the work David Attenborogh has been doing about fossils.

SPORTS REPORT
Under 11s Hockey
A very good performance by the U11 mixed team on a Tuesday afternoon. Against a well-matched Alton, Frensham battled very well indeed.
The team were well directed by some cool-headed decision making by Ava in central midfield. Ben and Will both made some excellent surging runs forwards through the first half. Up-front, Johnny was a nuisance to the opponent’s defence and, working well with Harrison on the left, Frensham were often getting in range and testing the keeper. In defence, Sulli and Erina kept the attacks at bay, with Dulcie in goal making a number of fine saves. Some good passing play from the opposition just after the half time break broke through Frensham’s defence and the home side found themselves 1-0 down.
Frensham couldn’t quite muster enough to get the equaliser; however, a fine performance from a team who haven’t played regularly together as a team. Huge amounts of effort and determination on display from everyone that played – very well done.
U11 Hockey v Bedales
The U11 hockey team continued their impressive start to season, winning their second game at home to Bedales Dunhurst on Wednesday afternoon. The game was a close affair with both teams having good spells of possession, having said this, Frensham never looked in doubt and were in control for the majority of the game. Jack opened the scoring after a nice through ball and he managed to latch onto the ball before the oncoming defender could get their stick to the ball. This was followed by a goal from George after some impressive stick skills and evasion of the opposition defenders. Frensham remained 2-0 up until the dying seconds of the game when Bedales broke through and made numbers count slotting the ball into the goal. The final whistle followed and Frensham came away with the victory. Well done to all involved.
U15 Mixed Hockey v KES
This week was the first game for the U15 which was at home. We had a great start to the game with an early goal scored by Luke which put Frensham in the lead. The team worked really well together and showed some lovely hockey. KES started to apply pressure to as we were pushing forward to score another goal. Leo and Luke showed some great attacking skills upfront and were working hard together to score another goal. Thea showed some great defensive work at the back showing some great clears out wide to stop the opposition scoring a goal. Towards the end of the last half we managed to score another goal which put us at a two goal lead at half time. After a quick team chat we got onto the second half with a 2-0 lead. After some great defensive work KES managed to score a goal which took the score to 2-1. With some change in the positions and formation Frensham managed to score one last time to secure their win. The final score was 4-2 to Frensham, well done to everyone that played.
U10 Mixed Hockey v Bedales
The team did really well and it was great to see an improvement in their game from just last week. The team are grasping their positions and their roles during the game and showing some great passes. The team showed some great potential and worked really hard throughout the whole game. The team were really supportive of each other which was great to see. You could see the determination the team had to score their first goal of the game which they managed to do in the 2nd quarter. With a change around of positions and giving everyone the opportunity to play anywhere we managed to score another goal. It was great to game to watch with some lovely hockey. The final score was 2-1, well done to everyone that played and on to the next match.
U12B Hockey v Alton
What a difference a week makes! It was still cold but the result was very different. The Year 7s played some end-to-end hockey where they kept their composure and found accurate passes to each other all over the pitch. It was great to see them executing the skills they have been learning with such positive results. They played as a team throughout and thoroughly deserved the 6-1 win. Richie almost kept a clean sheet but definitely helped keep the score low with some excellent goal keeping skills. A special mention to Alfie who got player of the match (again!), Sienna who played some skilful hockey, showing great vision and composure and Archie who dominated in attack scoring quite a few of the 6 goals.
U15 Girls Football v Ditcham Park
It was another great performance by the U15s. We are starting to pass the ball really well and our positional play has improved considerably. I was really impressed with our tenacity in the tackle. We scored 3 fantastic goals, 2 of which were created by Jemima down the right who crossed balls in and were finished with great timing on the volley by Jamie and Heidi. The third was an excellent strike by Lulu. I was delighted with the whole team and we came away with an excellent 3-1 win
