A MESSAGE FROM KATHERINE
Dear parents,
Well, I had no idea that my newsletter last week would spark such a conversation! So, it turns out that the person who wrote the Sticky Stick song is an Old Frenshamian (Diggy Hicks Little) and her husband, Sandar Jones, was an Assistant Director and the woof of Duggee is also an OF! What a small world it is and how lovely it is to know that our Frensham students move into such varied paths when they grow up and bring joy to others. I do hope you still have it stuck in your heads, it is a real ear worm!
On a sadder note, we are saying goodbye to Ceri Ince next week. She has been part of the Frensham staff as a Teaching Assistant since Summer 2018. Ceri is a kind, patient and supportive member of staff for our children and staff. She has nurtured so many of the children through the Junior School and we are very sad to see her go. Ceri is leaving to have more time with her training to be a specialist teacher to support children with SEND needs particularly Dyslexia, which is close to Ceri’s heart. We wish Ceri well in her studies and we will all miss her when she leaves Frensham on Wednesday.
Parents’ evening for Reception to Year 6 is on Thursday 24th February and you can book a slot with the class teacher to discuss your child. For those in Year 3-6 you will also have the chance to also meet with your child’s specialist teachers if you would like to. If your child has Extra Maths or English with Jocelyn or Kelly, you will be able to book time with them too. Kelly will happily meet with any parents who have any questions about Support for Learning. Liv will email next week to explain how to book into your preferred slots, and this will all be done on your child’s Teams account.
Lastly, we have a Christmas present swap to get sorted for the parents in the Junior School. With covid numbers fluctuating in the Junior School we have held off until now to make this happen. We will be sorting the logistics with FoF next week and we will let any families who are new or who were unable to bring a present in last time the chance to go shopping over the holiday and bring one/two in after half term. Our aim is for the swap to take place at the end of the first week back after half term.
Next week is Children’s Mental Health Week so watch out for lots of lovely things to be shared in the next Newsletter.

Science Fair 2022 - March 28th-30th 2022
Open to students in Years 7, 8 and 9
A science fair is an opportunity to investigate a science topic or question of your own choosing and then to present your findings for everyone to see. It is a physical presentation and is set up in room or hall along with everyone else’s. Judges give prizes for the best presentations.

Junior School Parent Reps
Parent Voice (formerly the Parents Committee) have now appointed our two new Junior School reps. Thank you to everyone who came forward and they look forward to welcoming the new reps properly next week.
World Book Day
World Book Day is fast approaching us! On Thursday 3rd March, we invite the Senior School community to dust off their Regency dress and enter into the spirit of the day. Our morning talk is from Dr Kim Simpson, who has been the Postdoctoral Fellow at Chawton House since 2016, a post shared between the library and the English Department at the University of Southampton. She will be embracing all things Jane Austen and the social etiquette of the time, but the Regency period is much more than just Mr Darcy! It was the time of the Napoleonic wars, the writing of Shelley’s Frankenstein, the founding of the Astronomical Society, the work of Elizabeth Fry, the founding of Singapore by Raffles… the list goes on!

Junior Bake Off
Junior Bake Off have recently opened applications for their 8th series: a Channel 4 programme that celebrates the culinary talent and ambition of the younger generation in Britain.
They are looking for young budding bakers between 9-12 years old.
Filming would take place from July 2022, but our applications close on Sunday 13th March 2022.

Calling all potential poets - Farnham needs you!
Write a poem for Farnham and be in with a chance of winning £25!
Could you write a poem about Farnham – what you like about the town, your favourite places and things, what it means to you? If so, enter theFarnham Literary Festival’s new Poetry Competition which the parish is running, and you could win a prize of £25 or £10 for a runner up. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to our poetry evening on March 12th at St Mark’s Church, Upper Hale.
There’s a competition for under-16s and an adultone. The under-16s poetry will be judged by poet Coral Rumble and the adult one by poet Ellora Sutton.
All you have to do is write your poem about Farnham and send it topoetry@badshotleaandhale.org or by post to Poetry, St Mark’s Church and Community Centre, Alma Lane, Farnham, GU9 0LT to reach us by Monday, February 14th at 5pm.
Please send your poems typed and double-spaced.

MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
The Senior School Production opening night was an overwhelming success. Here's just a few comments from the audience:
"Just to say MSND was truly wonderful last night, the best first night I have ever seen at your theatre, it was so good."
"Wow!wow! Wow! Congratulations to the entire cast you were all simply amazing . From the fairy lights outside, to the amazing woodland walk, fantastic seating, scenery, props and actors who were exceptional! What a fantastic night . What a credit you all are to Frensham Heights."
"I came to see MND this evening and it was wonderful. From the moment you leave the car park and see the festoon lights outside you really are in the ‘fairy zone’. The auditorium looked fantastic. What a great job."
