Another busy week has seen Year 9s enjoying their venture days with an overnight camp, and today the first of our surf trips departs for Cornwall. It looks as if they are lucky to be experiencing the last of the autumn sunshine, so I am sure they will have a wonderful time. We have had two very successful parent information evenings this week, one for new 6th Form students, and one for new Year 7 parents. It was lovely to see many of you there and I hope you are as excited as we are about the opportunities available to your sons and daughters this year, and in the years to come.
The professional development of staff is something I take very seriously, and last weekend saw the start of our first coaching course for staff. We have engaged the services of Graydin, a professional coaching company, to work with us. All the staff who attended found the course inspirational, and my intention is for all staff to attend a course at some point in the next two years. I had a conversation with a parent at an event this week in which he was extolling the virtues of a book which he said has transformed the way he speaks to and listens to his children. You may be familiar with it as it has been around for a while, but if not, do have a look. It is called How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. Here is an interesting link to a follow up book, co-written in 2017 by Joanna Faber, whose mother Adele wrote the first book:
