A MESSAGE FROM LAURA
Dear parents,
What a wonderful week of sports and sun we have had. It was lovely to welcome so many of you, your extended families and dog! Thank you to all of our students, staff and FoF for making the event so special. Sports Days have been a great tradition at Frensham and I have found these wonderful photos from 1907.

I have had a relaxing day today as Teddy in Year 2 has been the Head. So it is only right, that she should continue this message to you.
A MESSAGE FROM TEDDY, HEAD FOR THE DAY
Dear parents
I had a very busy day running Frensham Heights. I ran the Junior School Assembly and had a busy morning organising things in the Head’s office. Otto in Year 6 was Head of Junior School for the day. At break time we had cake and squash with our classmates in Years 2 and 6. Even the Head gets a break sometimes. I chose a really lovely lunch for the school - pizza and chicken followed by ice cream sundaes.
In the afternoon, I ran the Junior School Sports Day. I took part in all the events, handed out stickers at the end and was interviewed with Phil.
After such an exciting day, I'll be handing the school back over to Laura now.
Best wishes
Teddy
Year 2

SAFEGUARDING UPDATE FROM JO AND JACK
In the last newsletter we wrote about attendance and how much focus there is on this in education nationally. The rate of attendance that schools across the country aim for is 95% or above. We will be focusing on this as a target for all students next academic year and will be getting in touch soon via email with those who are currently below this number for this academic year just to let you know your current child’s attendance rate so that we can work together going forward to help all students attend school as much as possible, so please look out for this email.
Another topical issue is vaping and there is more and more in the media about the dangers of this for young people at the moment. We spoke with all year groups about vaping earlier in the year and have been pro-active by installing vape sensors in areas where we think this could happen to try and catch it if it does. There is a balance to be struck between students knowing that it is against school policy and that sanctions are there to act as a deterrent, but we are also keen to support any student struggling with this as vapes containing nicotine can be extremely addictive and so hard to stop. Below, you can watch the powerpoint from our presentation to Year 7 and 8 students earlier in the year in case it is helpful for you as you talk to your children about this issue.
SCHOOL NOTICES
FoF PIMMS TENT - FOUNDERS' DAY
Hard to believe, but it’s nearly time for Frensham’s Founders’ Day. Alongside the official events and all the teacher/student stalls, FOF will again be running our legendary Pimms Tent. We will have a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available to purchase (using cash or card) and this year we will also be running a separate sweet tombola stall (using cash or tickets).
All proceeds from both stalls will go towards our fundraising efforts, but we can only run these with help from you wonderful volunteers. If you can spare a bit of time on the big day to help out then please put your name down using the link below - it’s a great way to meet new friends and to brush off your Pimms making skills in time for summer!
Please sign up here:

DRIVING AND DROP-OFF
Just a reminder to everyone to drive safely and slowly when onsite - at drop-off and pick-up times there are a lot of pedestrians and cyclists moving around. Please also remember that when using the drop-off zone, you need to choose the shortest queue and drive as far up as possible before stopping to let your child out. Stopping early causes cars to back up down to the Long Road. Thank you!
DEPOSITS
Thank you to everyone who has already responded with their bank details for the return of deposits if your child is leaving at the end of this term. If you haven't yet replied, please could you reply using the link in the letter emailed to you before the half-term break.
PARENT VOICE - REPORTING FOCUS GROUP WORKSHOP
Parent Voice have set up a Reporting Parent Focus Group Workshop with Giles and Flic at 2pm on Monday 19th June in the Billiard Room.
The agenda will include the principles, frequency, content and format of school reports.
Everyone is welcome!
If you’d like to attend, please send Vicki an email at vicki@nixonconsultancy.com so the school have an idea of numbers.
NUT-FREE SCHOOL
Another reminder - as we have students who have severe nut allergies, we must be a nut-free school. Please make sure your child doesn't bring anything containing nuts onto the school site. Thank you!
YEAR 4 ART DISPLAY AT FRENSHAM FAYRE
Our Year 4 children are entering their artwork into the Frensham Fayre this year, click here for more info.
RESIDENTIAL TRIPS - LOOKING AHEAD
We are very lucky that we have a large number of staff who are very happy to run school trips that enrich our school experience – including over weekends and holidays. We know that trips require a lot of planning and in general residential trips are scheduled a year in advance so that we can organise them and allow you time to plan/save as neede. Below is a live link to our working document that shows our plans so far. The further ahead the trip – the less details we may have – but hopefully it goes someway to help give the overview.
THANK A TEACHER!
The Thank a Teacher campaign recognises all staff working in UK schools and colleges; school leaders, teachers, teaching assistants, and all support staff such as lunchtime supervisors, caretakers and cleaners. If you’re feeling shy you can send a card anonymously! Click here to send a thank you.

WORTHY EARTH UPDATE
Year 7s have been making great headway with the school kitchen garden with Worthy Earth. They have finished off all of the beds and pathways in the garden and also created a small pumpkin patch. The deer fence has been constructed and they are aiming to grow strawberries, soft fruit bushes and other climbing annual vegetables up the fenceline to make the most of the extra growing space. The tomatoes are maturing well in the polytunnel and our potato plants are starting to show their foliage above the ground.

BAFTA YOUNG GAME DESIGNER 2023 FINALIST
Back in March, you may recall we told you that Arlo F, Yr 10, had imagined, created and developed a game called Bird in the Woods which was submitted for the BAFTA Young Gamer Design Award competition. We are excited to announce that Arlo has reached the final of his category (Game Making Award 15-18 years old). This is an incredible achievement and to have his creativity and talent recognised in this way is amazing. The games faced a tough 3 rounds of industry experts judging the 100’s of entries to reach the final 10.
As part of the reward for reaching the final, Arlo now has access to gaming expert mentors who can help him to develop this passion further as a hobby or even as a career. In addition to this, the 2023 winners will be featured in the prestigious Power Up experience, alongside some of the very best video games and consoles from the past five decades. Power Up opens at the Science Museum in London on 27 July 2023, and is currently open at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester (Power UP | Science and Industry Museum). If you get a chance, do go down and visit this exhibition and you can experience all the finalist’s games and celebrate Arlo’s achievements.
The winners will be announced in an online event held at the end of this month so watch this space.
If your child is interested in learning more about this competition and how they can go about entering future competitions, ask them to come and speak to Sarah Cull.

Arlo said: “I am really looking forward to being able to hear about a professional’s approach to game design – I’m sure it will be invaluable to me going forward.”
BOARDERS GAMES NIGHT
Bingo, connect 4, giant jenga and dominoes were just some of the highlights from a night of traditional games. Competitive spirits ran high with a new level of strategic thinking rarely seen in a game of connect 4! Fabulous collaboration and good old honest fun was had by all!

T-SHIRT CONTEST RESULTS
Frensham art students took part in a T Shirt design competition as part of the Self Expression Safari in support of Cherry Trees and the result was unanimous !
Well done to Klym, who created a stunning, thought provoking design
