  • WORKING AT FRENSHAM | Frensham Heights

One of the real differences about Frensham is our open, equal environment. There is no forced deference or demanded respect. We are all in this together. A strong basis of mutual respect and equality creates an innovative, lively place to work. WORKING AT FRENSHAM TEACHING STAFF As a progressive school, our teachers will find an exciting innovative opportunity to really engage with the students. Their role is not just to disperse knowledge, but to instill lasting learning and skills. Beyond a specific subject, our teachers engage students in cross-curricular projects and social, moral and ethical discussions and above all create genuine, lasting relationships built on mutual respect. There are currently no teaching staff vacancies SUPPORT STAFF As a cohesive community, it is just as important that our support staff are onboard with the communal vision and ethos of the school. There are many events throughout the year, not to mention lunchtime everyday, where students, teachers and support staff come together. It's more than just a day job, but something that you can become passionately involved with. Digital and Creative Content Manager Full-Time | All Year Round | Start Summer 2026 Frensham Heights is a genuinely distinctive independent school, with a confident creative identity. We are seeking a Digital and Creative Content Manager to build on this work and play a key role in ensuring the school continues to stand out in the independent school sector. This is a hands‑on creative role with responsibility for ensuring consistently high standards of design, visual identity and creative output across digital and print. The role spans website content, organic social media, design, photography and event support, and offers real scope to shape how the school is seen and experienced. Application Process Please send your application, and direct any questions, to Susie Birdsall at susiebirdsall@frensham.org . Early applications are warmly encouraged, and candidates may be invited for interview before the closing date. Please note that we may close applications early. Closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 31st May . Interviews will be held in the week commencing Monday 1st June . Download Job pack Frensham Heights is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and requires its staff to share this commitment. All candidates will have a Safeguarding Suitability interview and child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, checks with past employers and a Prohibition from Teaching and Management Check. All posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

This year we are celebrating 100 Years of Frensham! Read more about our Centenary here. WHO WE ARE When looking at who we are, it’s also really important to look at where we came from. The things that make this school truly different were given to us by our founders 100 years ago and have not only stood the test of time, but are arguably more relevant now than ever before. CONTINUE READING OUR APPROACH One of our main goals is to put each student's learning into their own hands. They will learn to learn using the best methods for them – experimenting, exploring and collaborating – trying new things, getting things wrong and trying again. CONTINUE READING OUR BROAD CURRICULUM Our students explore an amazingly diverse timetable made up of mathematical and scientific, creative and performing, linguistic and literary, physical and technological, spiritual, moral, social and cultural subjects - all held in equal importance. CONTINUE READING THE FRENSHAM SPIRIT There is an energy. A feeling of happiness and calmness. It comes from all the children being comfortable in their own skins. With no prefects or head boys and girls, everyone is on a level playing ground. They can be who they are. REGISTER YOUR CHILD FLORENCE ANDREWS | OLD FRENSHAMIAN "The freedom given at Frensham, perhaps more than at other schools, helps students to be more ambitious and driven rather than the other way round. I think naturally humans want to learn – you look at toddlers and they want to learn to walk, they want to learn to talk – and I don't think that changes. The more regimented and stifling you make an educational environment, the more people resist it and decide they don't like learning. Frensham's really good at spotting what someone loves and what their talent is... and they follow that." We are now open year round (48 weeks) and if you need a longer day or flexible hours, we are open 7.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. We also accept 15 & 30 hours funding. Our new hours and options are now available. See Nursery fees . Visit us We'd love to show you around. CONTACT ADMISSIONS NURSERY FEES OPEN EVENTS OPENING TIMES The Fireflies Our youngest learners may be small, but they are a big part of life at Frensham Heights. In Fireflies Nursery and Preschool, children are encouraged to follow their curiosity, explore freely and play with freedom. It’s here that their sense of wonder grows and their love of learning first takes flight. Fireflies is an education that keeps imagination alive and curiosity glowing. Children learn that their thoughts matter, their voices are heard and that school is a place filled with joy, kindness and adventure. From Little Learners to Confident Explorers Our Fireflies are fully part of the Frensham community. They use the same beautiful facilities, eat in the same dining hall and perform on the same stage as our older students. They are known, valued and included at every step and this is how their confidence starts to grow and blossom. We celebrate individuality. Our skilled Early Years Team uses a Planning in the Moment approach, responding to children in real time and turning their ideas into meaningful learning. Every activity is designed to be engaging, playful and purposeful. A child fascinated by Bonfire Night might find themselves exploring light and shadow, mixing hot and cold colours, listening to new sounds or even visiting the photography darkroom. No doubt then all topped off with marshmallows at the Forest School fire pit! Our practitioners provide holistic teaching and coverage across all EYFS areas: Personal, Social & Emotional Development Communication & Language Physical Development Literacy Mathematics Understanding the World Expressive Arts & Design A Day at Fireflies Nursery & Preschool Our days are shaped around the children - their interests, their energy and their ideas. With Forest School and outdoor adventure, creative arts and specialist sessions in French, PE, Music, Drama and Dance, every day brings something new. Whether they’re climbing trees, painting masterpieces or visiting our friendly chickens, ducks and goats, Fireflies children enjoy a world full of discovery and a wide variety of unique experiences. Pastoral Care Just like every Frensham child, our Fireflies are recognised as individuals, each with their own pace, passions and personality. Our Early Years team knows each child deeply and thoughtfully adapts to their needs, ensuring every day is meaningful, enriching and full of warmth. Frensham Heights is built on mutual respect. Staff model kindness, patience and genuine attentiveness, creating a culture where every child is heard and valued. With small class sizes and excellent ratios, children have the space to grow, thrive and become confident, joyful and excited learners. Transitioning into Reception Class from Fireflies We don’t want our children to grow-up too quickly and therefore use both Reception and Year 1 as time to transition happily and comfortably from the Fireflies space. Planning and Play in the Moment is still a massive part of our Reception class and the start of Year 1 and gradually this becomes more interspersed with learning moments of phonics, number work and increasing exploration of specific projects from our Junior School Curriculum. Our Fireflies Team Our EYFS staff are knowledgeable, creative and highly qualified, from Level 2 practitioners to postgraduate specialists. They thrive on children’s imagination and energy, creating a learning environment that is playful, stimulating and full of life. Capturing the Journey – Famly We use Famly to create a rich, personal record of every child’s learning. Photos, videos and diary entries allow parents to stay connected to their child’s experiences, from first steps in the Nursery all the way through Preschool and into their primary education. Updated weekly, this journal strengthens the vital home–school relationships and celebrates each child’s unique journey. Outdoor Adventure Our trained forest leaders introduce children to the magic of outdoor learning. With freedom to explore, take small risks and discover the world around them, children develop confidence, curiosity and self-awareness. Every adventure is carefully designed to match their age, stage and sense of wonder. Step into a world of wonder at Fireflies Nursery! Curious about where your little one can truly shine? Come and experience the magic of Frensham Fireflies firsthand. Discover how we offer everything you'd expect from a nurturing nursery setting... and so much more! Fireflies Nursery is open all year round (48 weeks), from 7:30am to 6:30pm. Our highly trained staff are passionate about encouraging your child's growth and development. Our friendly on-site chickens and goats offer a truly special learning experience! Specialist teaching in French, Drama, PE, Music, Dance, and Art. Some also take advantage of the café that is run in the Aldridge Theatre Foyer first thing in the morning (to coincide with drop off times) and in the afternoons (to coincide with pick up times). Years 7-13: we operate a one-way system for dropping off and picking up for students. Many parents opt to use the Main Car Park, which is clearly signposted as you turn into Frensham Heights Road. Some also take advantage of the café that is run in the Aldridge Theatre Foyer first thing in the morning (to coincide with drop off times) and in the afternoons (to coincide with pick up times). Please try to use either the drop-off zone or the Main Car Park, rather than driving up to Main House and the Music School or down to the Studios and Art Centre. This is really to keep as many areas as possible free of cars at a time when many children are out and about on site and when staff are trying to park in the allocated staff areas. BY CAR Visitors: please park outside our Main House and head in to the reception to check-in.

You are going to be introduced to Java Programming as part of your A Level. You may already be familiar with Java, or it might be your first time using it. Your first job is to download the necessary Java files and an IDE so you can run programs in Java. 2. Go to the Oracle website and download and install the Java Development Kit on your machine Java Downloads | Oracle (https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/downloads/) It doesn’t really matter what version you choose. 3. Decide which IDE you would like to use. Download and install the software from their websites. You may need to get some help from YouTube to do this but that is all part of A Level thinking and getting yourself to independently learn. Java works well in the following IDEs: 1. IntelliJ IntelliJ IDEA – the Leading Java and Kotlin IDE (jetbrains.com) 2. Eclipse Eclipse IDE | The Eclipse Foundation 3. Visual Studio (only use if you are a very confident programmer already) 4. Learn the basic Java syntax to: • Produce an output to console • Take an input from the keyboard • Declare variables • Assign inputs to variables • Concatenate outputs to console Use W3 Schools to help you complete this task Java Tutorial (w3schools.com)(https://www.w3schools.com/java/default.asp) Chemistry Please use the information in the PowerPoint to help you complete the questions in the OCR transition from GCSE to A-level maths skills document. Over the summer, before you begin the course, we would recommend that you see at least one live production and begin to consider how directors, performers and designers work together to produce a show that makes an impact on a live audience. Your set texts for the course will be MACHINAL by Sophie Treadwell and THE TEMPEST by William Shakespeare, and we would suggest you familiarise yourself with these either by reading them or watching a film/live theatre version. You will explore a variety of practitioners and other play texts, none of which will be decided until the course is underway and we have had the opportunity to work together. We do not require any specific advance learning but would encourage you to use the reading list below over the summer to begin preparing for your course. SUGGESTED READING LIST As A level students you are expected to conduct independent study, including research and reading around your subject. Outside your lesson times you are expected to conduct an equal amount of study (so for 5 lessons a week this would be just over 4 ½ hours). There will be plenty of time beyond your set prep for you to access the list below. All of these will give you a greater understanding of the world of theatre and those who work in it. Most of these are available through the Drama department or the Library, and if you would like to borrow a copy you are most welcome. Anything we do not currently have can be ordered for you. Please note – this is just a selection of the texts we recommend and you may also wish to read others. We would be happy to recommend a further selection once you have exhausted these! It is also not essential that you read the Practitioner texts in their entirety but select chapters to gain a flavour of the methodology. Practitioners/genres: An Actor Prepares – Stanislavski Brecht on Theatre – Brecht The Frantic Assembly Book of Devising Theatre– Scott Graham Games for Actors and Non‐Actors – Augusto Boal The Empty Space – Peter Brook Shakespeare on Stage– Julian Curry The Theatre and its Double– Antonin Artaud Immersive Theatre– Josh Machamer Play Texts: A Doll’s House – Ibsen Eight – Ella Hickson Look Back in Anger– John Osborne 4.48 Psychosis– Sarah Kane (WARNING – contains strong language/imagery) A Midsummer Night’s Dream– Shakespeare Dance Dance students will be understanding the history and work of Rambert. Take a look at their website https://rambert.org.uk.(https://rambert.org.uk/) Make notes on key parts of their history and where they are as a company now. We will be studying practitioners such as Matthew Bourne, Yasmin Vardimon and Christopher Bruce. Watch some of their works to see the style of dance and choreography they use. Alongside this make sure your staying physical. Work on your strength, flexibility and stamina. Keep yourself healthy and strong ready for September. A level style allows for freedom of thought and interpretation and with this in mind, you need to read the two texts detailed below over the summer so you can bring your fresh ideas to the lessons in September. Atonement by Ian McEwan: ISBN:978-0-099-42979-1 Vintage (£9.99) The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald: ISBN: 978-0-141-18263-6 Penguin Classics (£6.99) Both texts are readily available on Amazon. It might be useful, but not mandatory, to consider purchasing alongside these core texts, the accompanying York notes for A Level study which are priced £7.99 and are available for both texts (visit www.yorknotes.com for details.) The above two texts will form the basis of your coursework, which is worth 20% of your final A Level grade. The emphasis of the coursework is designed to promote love of literature, critical, independent and thought-provoking responses which are not necessarily designed to be prescriptively taught; so, wider interpretations are of the essence. So having an understanding and familiarity of the coursework texts before you start the course will be invaluable. If you have any questions before September, please feel free to contact us on the emails below. We do of course hope that the prospect of reading these two outstanding novels over the summer is a welcomed one; we think you are in for a real treat! Happy reading! Dance is woven into life at Frensham Heights from the very beginning. From Nursery through to Year 9, every student experiences dance as part of their curriculum — developing not just technical skill, but creativity, confidence, and the ability to express themselves through movement. DANCE Join us for an A Level Discovery Workshop Dance is woven into life at Frensham Heights from the very beginning. From Nursery through to Year 9, every student experiences dance as part of their curriculum, developing not just technical skill, but creativity, confidence and the ability to express themselves through movement. From First Steps to the Stage. Our structured dance programme grows with your child. Curriculum dance in the early and middle years gives students a rich grounding in movement and expression, building a vocabulary of physical storytelling that stays with them for life. Dance at Frensham Dance is at the heart of our creative curriculum. From Nursery through to Year 9 , every student explores movement, expression and performance as part of their structured dance education - building confidence, creativity and physical literacy from an early age. This strong foundation leads naturally into GCSE Dance and A Level Dance qualifications for students who wish to pursue dance more seriously, making Frensham Heights one of the few schools to offer a truly continuous dance education from early years through to Sixth Form. Beyond the timetable, students can extend their passion through a vibrant range of extracurricular dance classes including ballet, street dance and commercial dance, ensuring every style and interest is catered for. Performance is central to the Frensham Heights dance experience. Our students perform on a fully professional stage at the Aldridge Theatre, gaining real-world experience of what it means to present to a live audience. This exposure to professional performance develops not only technical skill but also resilience, stagecraft and artistry - qualities that set our students apart. Whether a student is taking their first steps in dance or preparing for an A Level showcase, every performance opportunity is approached with ambition and care. We are immensely proud of our Arts Award programme, which is open to Sixth Form students with a passion for the performing arts. This award offers meaningful financial benefits alongside an exceptional enrichment programme designed to broaden horizons and deepen understanding of the professional arts world. Through direct engagement with professional dancers, our students gain invaluable industry insight, mentorship and inspiration that simply cannot be found in a classroom alone. It is a programme that reflects everything we believe about arts education at Frensham Heights -that great teaching, real experience, and genuine passion create artists who are ready for the world.
