We'll also talk about which life skills have played a role in their success. In our first episode, we speak to Charlie Bennett, Director of Innovation and Head of 6th form at Frensham Heights. In the second episode, we talk to Alison Bundy, Assistant Head of Sixth Form (Pastoral) and English Teacher here at Frensham Heights. We'd love it if you could share your career journey with the students via the My Journey podcast, please contact grantgallacher@frensham.org for more information!

THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM
BOARDING ACTIVITIES
We have been treated to some beautiful sunrises at the back of MH and HH this week, which makes the mornings so much brighter. Last week Year 11 and 12 boarders thoroughly enjoyed the Casino night with lots of different games on offer. The recently renovated gym continues to be a popular option mid-week a long with games in the sports hall. Last weekend was a busy one. On Friday, a number of boarders went Ice skating, and all had a great time. On Saturday some of our boarders performed in the Farnham Christmas light switch on event. A minibus full of students went along to support and enjoy the performances and the light switch on. On Sunday Guilford started its Christmas celebrations with a festive fun day which was also well attended by our boarders.
OUTDOOR MATHS
The children had a challenge sheet of X10, X100 or X1000. They needed to work out the answer, find it somewhere in the playground and then write down the letter on the back of the answer card. All the letters they collected were an anagram. They worked out that it said ‘Year 5 are Stars!.’ The children loved spending the maths lesson in the fresh air and worked well in teams to answer the questions and crack the anagram.
SPORTS AMBASSADORS NUTRITION IN SPORT TALK
Last Friday afternoon our GCSE and A-level PE students along with the sports ambassadors attended a talk in the Aldridge theatre on nutrition and performance. The talk was given by Amanda who qualified as a clinical nutritionist and now works for the school catering company and she gave the students a great talk on the importance of a balanced diet, the requirements for optimum sports performance and hydration. The students were also able to try some snacks and drinks that they could make to fuel their performance and aid recovery, including protein balls, smoothies and electrolyte drinks. Hopefully this gives the students an idea of how they can prepare their body for effectively for sport and will help in understanding the diet and nutrition exam modules.
YEAR 6 PREHISTORIC MUSEUM
This term, the Year 6 topic is Evolution and the children were tasked with making a prehistoric model of their choice. It was fantastic to see each child’s creativity being showcased and to have such an array of art on display, it was truly amazing. We invited our parents in and the rest of the Junior School to share our incredible models. There was a brilliant buzz in the Ballroom this morning!
EARLY YEARS CERAMICS
Our Nursery and Reception took a trip down to the ceramics studio this week to start making some beautiful festive decorations.
SPORTS REPORT
Under 16s Netball v Sherfield
Frensham worked hard tonight in dark conditions. Sherfield were physical and athletic and made some fantastic intercepts. Frensham were too strong however, with some slick attacking movement and dominant defence. Frensham were very disciplined and focused tonight and Sherfield were out skilled by these fantastic girls on this occasion. The final score was 20-5, a strong win for Frensham. Players of the match were Heidi and Lily who were both outstanding tonight for very different reasons. Weydon away next week, which will be a tough one!
Under 10s Netball v Churchers
A great away game for our U10 netballers against a strong team at Churcher's! The first quarter saw an early goal from the opposition thanks to their quick passing and use of space. The Frensham team tried to gain possession but were following the ball rather than marking their players. In the second quarter, the team focused on marking their players, holding their position on the D and making use of the space on court, which helped slow the opposition down. At half time, it was a 2-0 lead for Churcher's. Heading into the third quarter, the team had settled and were making impressive interceptions which enabled them to move the ball into their attacking third swiftly! Frensham had a few shots which fell just short of some goals and a third goal was scored by Churcher's. The final quarter was a hot bed of passes, interceptions, snatches for the ball and near misses but finished with Georgia scoring a goal just before the end of the game! Well done to all who played and well done to Georgia for being selected as Player of the Match.
U11 Girls Football Tournament
On Friday evening the U11 girls played in the Aspire plate girls football tournament. This was for local junior schools and played at Weydon. Frensham played three games against Potter‘s Gate, St Peter’s and Polycarps. The girls approached this with an amazing attitude and worked hard in every game. They came up against some very strong opposition but didn’t let this deter them as they got stuck in to every tackle, tried to pass the ball and work on their spacing. Frensham lost narrowly in all three games but showed lots of promise for their fixtures in spring term. Well done to the whole team.
U15 Football v Bedales
The U15s put last week’s defeat behind them with a convincing win over a good Bedales side. The opposition started the game stronger and took the lead, however Frensham adapted their play and asserted their dominance, passing the ball with confidence and creating a whole host of chances. Jack, Zach and Adnan all on the scoresheet to put the game out of sight. Bedales mounted a comeback with two goals in quick succession but the defence steadied the ship and then Adnan waltzed past 4 defenders to place the ball in the back of the net. Frensham took the victory 5-3. Well done all.
U13B Football v Bedales
The U13s suffered defeat this week at the hands of Bedales. The game was end to end and both teams had spells of possession without being able to provide the end product. This made it tough work for our Frensham team who had to cover a lot of ground. Bedales went 1-0 up through a penalty half way though the first half, the game remained very even until the half-time whistle. In the second half Bedales were clinical and took both their chances to put the game beyond Frensham and win 3-0. There were lots of positives for this relatively inexperienced team to work on and we look forward to the tournament at Mayville next week.
U14/15 Netball Vs Farnborough Hill
This week’s game was away at Farnborough Hill. Frensham started off very strong with the first center pass which resulted in our first goal of the game. From the offset the team worked well and were eager to get a win. Throughout the game Frensham showed some brilliant netball with some fantastic movement up and down the court. The defense was incredible and made it very difficult for Farnborough Hill to get the ball in the ‘D’ which resulted in many interceptions. In the first quarter Frensham were out in front with some brilliant goals scored by Georgia and Sophie. The movement around the ‘D’ was fantastic with everyone using the space on the court effectively. It was a great game for Frensham with the final score being 22-9 to Frensham. Well done to everyone that played.
U10 Netball Vs Churcher’s College Junior School
This week’s game was away at Churcher’s College Junior School playing five a side. The team was very excited from the minute they got onto the minibus. Once we arrived, we got straight into a warm up and then had a quick team chat before the first quarter was underway. Frensham took the first center and showed some brilliant netball from the offset. The first two quarters were quite tight and both teams played some lovely Netball. Frensham worked hard throughout the whole game with improvements being made each quarter. By the third and fourth quarter Frensham were making some lovely movement up and down the court, especially from Charlotte who showed some fantastic movement when receiving a pass. The defense played extremely well, Ava and Charlotte made some brilliant interceptions stopping Churcher’s from getting into the ‘D’. We also showed some brilliant passes into our shooters who were eager to get a goal and who were moving round the ‘D’ to try and get away from their defenders. It was a great game and every played extremely well with some great improvements to their game. Well done to every that played and on to the next game.
Under 12s Netball v Ditcham - From Poppy
It was an excellent game. With a very close final score of 4-5 to Ditcham. Our centre passes were brilliant and when we were driving forward for the ball, we were working our way up the court really well. In training, we need to work on over head throws and getting in front of the player.
Under 13s Netball v Ditcham - From Dulcie
This week myself and the Year 8 team played Ditcham Park School away. We were off to a good start from the first quarter, taking a strong early lead. Ditcham responded by reshuffling their team which meant the middle two quarters were more challenging for Frensham but we dug in and kept adding more goals, managing to maintain a strong lead. For the last quarter it was Frensham's turn to change up the team and we had a fantastic end to the game. The defence was amazing thanks to Marni, Maria and Ivy. The attacking was also superb. Sienna and Myla had great connection with the ball and really helped it get up the court to Violet and myself. In the last quarter we swapped Violet in to centre and the match really did take off as she was flying around the pitch intercepting almost every ball. The well deserved players of the match were Marni and Sienna. The final score was 17-1 to Frensham!!! Another great game.
Under 13s Football v Farleigh (ISFA Cup)
This was true cup tie that had it all! Two teams with not much between them going at each other to create a fantastic spectacle for the many supporters that lined the sidelines. Farleigh had the edge in the first half are were getting forward with speed and in numbers but Frensham dealt with everything well in a calm and yet physical manner. They did take a 1-0 lead into the half time break but the boys knew they would get chances. The first chance came post half time chat where we discussed the importance of the counter attack at speed, Alfie and Will played out from the back and a through ball to Otto was inch perfect and he beat the goalkeeper to the ball to slide the ball into the back on the net. The boys continued to soak up play, putting bodies on the lines with blocks and physicality. Another quick counterattack, this time down the right from otto who beat two players and when he pulled into back to Fin a last gasp touch from Farleigh prevented another goal. Tomos was superb in goal making several fine saves as pressure began to build, as talk of extra time and penalties on the sidelines started a stunning strike from 20 yards won the game for Farleigh in the closing moments of the game. A fantastic match today!
Under 9s Football v Churchers
A tough game today with Churcher’s dominating the game but some great resilience and commitment on display from Frensham who never game up. Lex bagged himself a fine goal that involved some great dribbling and a cool finish. Leopold made a sensational save from a penalty and Aubrey made some great tackles throughout a made life very difficult for the opposition.
Old Frenshamians Catch Up
Our Head of Hockey went on the road to catch up with two Old Frenshamians last weekend! Alicia studying at Warwick University and playing in the 2s. Sam at Nottingham Trent playing in the 3rds, one of the best university hockey set ups in the country! Well done to Both! Great to see students still playing after Frensham! Hopefully both can make it back soon for a staff game!
