Frensham Heights School recently brought the Farnham Literary Festival out of the centre of town, hosting a diverse and engaging programme of events for all ages on their school site. Over four days, the school welcomed over 500 individuals plus two neighbouring schools, to a series of enjoyable experiences.

The festival lineup at Frensham Heights was rich and varied. London-based author and illustrator Lisa Stickley engaged young minds with her own creative story and got them all using their imaginations and drawing illustrated characters. For the grown-ups, legendary music video director Tim Pope shared fascinating insights into his iconic career with the likes of Neil Young, David Bowie and The Cure. Two compelling live performances of Shakespeare’s classic, "Macbeth" by This is My Theatre, brought the bard’s timeless tragedy to life for GCSE students and Shakespeare lovers alike. And finally, Professor John Long delivered a captivating talk on the fascinating history of sharks in the school’s stunning ballroom, with breathtaking views of the Surrey Hills.

The festival brought an increased energy to Frensham Heights, befitting of the school’s drive to host more community events. This participation builds on the success of previous community events, including workshops during Farnham’s October Craft Month and a festive Christmas Fair featuring a big wheel and high ropes glow trail, both open to the public.
Frensham Heights is committed to continuing its community outreach. The school will soon open up its annual A Level Exhibition as part of the Surrey Open Art Studios in June alongside creative arts workshops for adults and children.
"We were honoured to be a significant part of the Farnham Literary Festival this year," said Ben McCarey, Head. "It was wonderful to see so many people from our local community, and beyond, enjoying the diverse range of events. We are dedicated to fostering a strong connection with our neighbours and providing enriching cultural experiences."
Looking ahead, Frensham Heights is excited to support the Farnham Literary Festival again next year, promising an even bigger and better programme as part of its own centenary year celebrations.
