  • HEALTH CARE | Frensham Heights

HEALTH CARE HEALTH CENTRE Our Health Centre sits inside Main House. It is staffed by qualified nurses every school day during term time, with an out of hours on-call service Sunday – Friday. Students can visit the Health Centre during surgery times and should ask their teacher’s permission if this is during lesson time. Parents can contact the Health Centre on healthcentre@frensham.org How big are your classes? We have one class per year group from Nursery up to Year 3 with small numbers to ensure individual attention. This splits into two classes per year group in Years 4, 5 and 6 with up to 18 per class. In Years 7 and 8, there are usually three tutor groups per year with 16 or 18 students in each. In Year 9, there are four tutor groups. The GCSE and A Level class sizes vary depending on the popularity of student subject choices. What clothes can students wear? We don’t have a uniform, we just ask our students to dress for purpose. Students are free to express their individuality through their clothes as long as it doesn’t interfere with their school day or cause any distraction or offence. Please also ensure that your child has sensible footwear, including waterproof or walking boots and everyday shoes. Can students have bicycles on site? Yes, from Year 7 – please make sure it is insured and in good working order with a strong lock. All students who have a bicycle at school are asked to sign a Bike Contract, which states the basic expectations on safe and considerate use of bicycles in and around school. Apart from those in the Sixth Form, all students need to wear a bicycle helmet. Can students bring medication to school? All medications, including over-the-counter medications, must be handed to the Health Centre on arrival for safe keeping. Do students need a school bag and stationery? Yes, please make sure the bag is suitable for students to carry their books around our vast site. Please also bring a pencil case, pencils, pens, erasers, colouring pencils, etc. It's a good idea to name all personal items. What proportion of students board? We offer boarding from Year 7 upwards - roughly 25% of the students board either as full, weekly or flexi 3 day boarders. Where we have space, students are welcome for an 'occasional night' boarding as well. This should be booked with the boarding house. During the school week there is no differentiation between day and boarding students. How do you handle discipline? Our disciplinary measures are based on mutual respect and self-discipline. We use discussion rather than detention and set targets for changes in behaviour. Depending on the nature of the situation, discussions will occur between the student/s and their teacher or with the Head of School, Deputy Head or Head and if the situation escalates disciplinary sanctions may be used. Aggressive language, shouting and detentions are not used by any staff at Frensham. Can my child take part in competitive sports? We have over 450 sporting fixtures each year for students who love competitive games. If you want your children to love sport, love going to matches and know how to win or lose well, then that’s what they’ll get here. As well as the main sports, we also offer mountain biking, high ropes, surfing trips, hill walking, rock climbing. At the end of the day, our goal is for students to be fit and healthy.

  • HEAD'S WELCOME | Frensham Heights

HEAD'S WELCOME Welcome to Frensham Welcome to Frensham. I have been honoured to lead this wonderful school from 2004 to 2018 and again for this academic year. What you will find as you get to know the school is that it is beautiful physically and philosophically, it offers enviable breadth and depth in its curriculum and non-academic pursuits and above all it seeks to share a generosity of spirit between all members of the school. If you are looking for a school that will know your child and believe in their dreams or ambitions, where people will really listen and give more time and care than the norm; then Frensham is exceptional. If you want to learn alongside your teacher and aim for the best Universities in the country; then our record is proven. If you want a school with 99 years of history and security but every year is an adventure; then you are in the right place. My main role this year is to prepare for my successor Ben McCarey. Ben is currently serving as Headmaster at Holyport College and everyone at Frensham is excited to be working with him. The parents and students and staff all played a role in his appointment process; so he has the confidence of us all to take this wonderful school into its next centena ry. If you don’t already know us, please do come and visit us. We would love to welcome you. Andrew Fisher Meet Ben McCarey

  • Our Approach | Frensham Heights

OUR APPROACH A progressive approach to education transcends the school years and aims to prepare each child for their future, both along whatever path they may choose but also as part of society as a whole. Students are asked to be active participants in their learning, challenging themselves and taking risks. They're asked to question and explore - to develop as individuals, as part of our school community and as engaged citizens of the wider world. OUR TEACHING & LEARNING We pride ourselves on looking at the whole child. Body, mind and spirit. Every child has potential. Not just a narrow potential to do well in academic tests or behave in a classroom, but each has their own potential far wider than this. An amazing imagination. A keen eye for colour or ear for rhythm. A passion for the environment, for numbers, for human rights, for literature. A natural grace on stage or one that’s still developing. We can miss the mark hugely if we judge children with easy to tick boxes when they undoubtedly have so much more to offer. And so, we offer them a very broad curriculum to let each child follow their own path towards fulfilling their unique potential. Until the end of Year 9, all students will explore a diverse timetable made up of mathematical and scientific, creative and performing, linguistic and literary, physical and technological, moral and spiritual, social and human subjects. All held in equal importance. Our GCSEs and A Levels are equally broad allowing students to create a tailor-made curriculum supporting their passions, strengths and goals. Within the classroom, life is just as diverse. Teachers are supported to be brave and innovative with their teaching. Classes are small allowing topics, activities and discussions to be modified, flexible, adaptable to the students involved. Teachers can break the mould, are encouraged to break the mould. If something’s not working, if interest or understanding is failing, they can stop and discuss. How can we make this interesting for you? How can we make this work? And together they can find that spark that has them all engaged, involved and really learning. Non-competitive classrooms allow the shyest to be more bold and the loudest to be more gentle, more considerate – valuable lessons in their own right. It creates a refreshing place to learn and teach. MEET OUR TEACHERS LEARNING RELATIONSHIPS We talk a lot about relationships at Frensham. To be very honest, and it’s probably clear, we are very proud of the relationships that develop here - they form one of our core values. Not just the schoolmates who go on to be lifelong friends and actually not just the relationships between people. At Frensham, really special relationships grow between teachers and students and from that between students and the subjects they become passionate about during their time here. With a more informal setting and smaller classes, the teachers and students really get to know each other. Literally on a first-name basis. This is important because we ask our students to step up and be more responsible and self-motivated than they may need to be elsewhere. We don’t micro-manage, we do support, but ultimately it’s down to each child to take control of their learning. Teachers learn each child’s strengths and weaknesses. They reinforce where needed and push where they can, but most importantly, they are a friendly face. They genuinely want to help, not to intimidate or belittle. Our teachers love the subjects they teach and they really want to pass that on. Their enthusiasm, interest and passion overflows into their students, particularly those that find they love those subjects too. That genuine shared enthusiasm breaks down barriers to learning. There’s no stigma attached. You can love maths and chat equations with your tutor at break. You can sing your heart out in the corridor on the way to class. No one will judge. You can be really academic or truly creative or both. The support you see here between students, between friends, really can bring tears to your eyes. As long as you do your best, take a few risks, step out of your comfort zone now and then, Frensham can support you with whatever your dreams may be. FRENSHAM PATHWAYS We are committed to offering a modern education which prepares our students for a future we can't yet know. With this as a focus, our new role of Head of Frensham Pathways is responsible for exploring an alternative, innovative curriculum that will be focused on relevant skills as the world continues its journey towards a more sustainable economic model with human service at its heart. Working alongside our Head of Careers, our Head of Frensham Pathways ensures that each student receives the support, advice and bespoke education relevant to their future higher education or career aspirations. LEARNING ENVIRONMENT In many ways, on first glance, our classrooms won’t look so different from anywhere else, but on second glance, you might notice that the teacher probably isn’t standing at the front. They’re more likely to be mingled in amongst the students. You might start to notice that the volume is a bit higher, it’s not just the teacher talking, the students – in all year groups – will be discussing and taking part too. Some classes might have gone outside, some might be using the tarmac as a giant blackboard or the woods as a setting for some creative writing. In all cases there will be a flexibility at work allowing the lessons to be moulded to keep everyone’s interest high. In every lesson what will stand out is the genuine relationships between the teachers and students. This develops both from our small class sizes and our more informal approach - our first name basis and sense of equality and mutual respect. This creates a learning environment that is not often found in an academic setting - a positive and safe academic learning environment where students and teachers can be brave and not afraid to take risks or make mistakes. SPORTS OUTDOOR ED CREATIVITY Creativity at Frensham is not limited to the creative subjects. It also sits at the heart of our academics. We strive for creativity of thought in every academic pursuit – to look at things differently, to consider a different approach - this forms one of our core values. We hope each student can find their own way to be engaged, that teachers can find a way to get everyone excited. Beyond that, developing a strong practice of creative thinking is imperative for life after Frensham. We aim to develop each student into a questioning and socially conscious young person. Someone who isn’t scared to challenge the norm, to question and speak up, someone who will make a difference whilst at Frensham and beyond. HOMEWORK Students are set homework if it is meaningful and adds something to their learning. We don't set homework just for the sake of it and sometimes giving students time to simply reflect on their learning can be a powerful tool. However, homework does give students the opportunity to work on essential life skills like organisation, time management and self discipline. It can also provide opportunities to consolidate learning and engage in a topic or independent research. Homework can be extremely valuable but never at the expense of student wellbeing. Our priority is about striking the balance between homework providing academic support but also not becoming overwhelming. We want our students to be able to have time out of school to be children - to rest and play. If we strike the balance right, these are not mutually exclusive. STUDY CLINICS We are committed to meeting the academic needs of all of our students and to also give them the tools and opportunities to take responsibility for their own learning. One way we do this is through regular drop-in study clinics. They run throughout the academic year and are held during lunch times and after school. MIXED-ABILITY CLASSES Classes in the Junior School may be set in certain subjects if the needs of the class group require this, however for the most part the children are taught in mixed ability sets. In Year 7, we set for Maths and Modern Foreign Languages, if appropriate to the class group. In Year 8, we also set for English and in Year 9 for Science as well. All other subjects are taught in mixed ability groups. SUPPORT FOR LEARNING We have an excellent Support for Learning team and we are able to offer support to children with mild learning difficulties. Through our entrance process, we will assess whether we can meet the needs of each child - this is to ensure that all students can flourish and thrive during their time at Frensham. We are unable to provide dedicated teaching assistants or one-to-one support in class. We are also unable to support children with moderate or severe learning needs. OUR SEN POLICY

  • June Week 1 2023 | Frensham Heights

THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM Friday 9th June, 2023 CLICK TO NAVIGATE SCHOOL MESSAGES SCHOOL EVENTS THIS WEEK AT SCHOOL SPORTS REPORT FRENSHAM KITCHEN NEXT WEEK A MESSAGE FROM LAURA Dear parents, What a wonderful week of sports and sun we have had. It was lovely to welcome so many of you, your extended families and dog! Thank you to all of our students, staff and FoF for making the event so special. Sports Days have been a great tradition at Frensham and I have found these wonderful photos from 1907. I have had a relaxing day today as Teddy in Year 2 has been the Head. So it is only right, that she should continue this message to you. A MESSAGE FROM TEDDY, HEAD FOR THE DAY Dear parents I had a very busy day running Frensham Heights. I ran the Junior School Assembly and had a busy morning organising things in the Head’s office. Otto in Year 6 was Head of Junior School for the day. At break time we had cake and squash with our classmates in Years 2 and 6. Even the Head gets a break sometimes. I chose a really lovely lunch for the school - pizza and chicken followed by ice cream sundaes. In the afternoon, I ran the Junior School Sports Day. I took part in all the events, handed out stickers at the end and was interviewed with Phil. After such an exciting day, I'll be handing the school back over to Laura now. Best wishes Teddy Year 2 1/6 A MESSAGE FROM NICK CLICK FOR NICK'S MESSAGE SAFEGUARDING UPDATE FROM JO AND JACK In the last newsletter we wrote about attendance and how much focus there is on this in education nationally. The rate of attendance that schools across the country aim for is 95% or above. We will be focusing on this as a target for all students next academic year and will be getting in touch soon via email with those who are currently below this number for this academic year just to let you know your current child’s attendance rate so that we can work together going forward to help all students attend school as much as possible, so please look out for this email. Another topical issue is vaping and there is more and more in the media about the dangers of this for young people at the moment. We spoke with all year groups about vaping earlier in the year and have been pro-active by installing vape sensors in areas where we think this could happen to try and catch it if it does. There is a balance to be struck between students knowing that it is against school policy and that sanctions are there to act as a deterrent, but we are also keen to support any student struggling with this as vapes containing nicotine can be extremely addictive and so hard to stop. Below, you can watch the powerpoint from our presentation to Year 7 and 8 students earlier in the year in case it is helpful for you as you talk to your children about this issue. VAPING POWERPOINT NOTICES SCHOOL NOTICES FoF PIMMS TENT - FOUNDERS' DAY Hard to believe, but it’s nearly time for Frensham’s Founders’ Day. Alongside the official events and all the teacher/student stalls, FOF will again be running our legendary Pimms Tent. We will have a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available to purchase (using cash or card) and this year we will also be running a separate sweet tombola stall (using cash or tickets). All proceeds from both stalls will go towards our fundraising efforts, but we can only run these with help from you wonderful volunteers. If you can spare a bit of time on the big day to help out then please put your name down using the link below - it’s a great way to meet new friends and to brush off your Pimms making skills in time for summer! Please sign up here: Founders Day - Pimms stall - https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/aA1qAk3a DRIVING AND DROP-OFF Just a reminder to everyone to drive safely and slowly when onsite - at drop-off and pick-up times there are a lot of pedestrians and cyclists moving around. Please also remember that when using the drop-off zone, you need to choose the shortest queue and drive as far up as possible before stopping to let your child out. Stopping early causes cars to back up down to the Long Road. Thank you! DEPOSITS Thank you to everyone who has already responded with their bank details for the return of deposits if your child is leaving at the end of this term. If you haven't yet replied, please could you reply using the link in the letter emailed to you before the half-term break. PARENT VOICE - REPORTING FOCUS GROUP WORKSHOP Parent Voice have set up a Reporting Parent Focus Group Workshop with Giles and Flic at 2pm on Monday 19th June in the Billiard Room. The agenda will include the principles, frequency, content and format of school reports. Everyone is welcome! If you’d like to attend, please send Vicki an email at vicki@nixonconsultancy.com so the school have an idea of numbers. NUT-FREE SCHOOL Another reminder - as we have students who have severe nut allergies, we must be a nut-free school. Please make sure your child doesn't bring anything containing nuts onto the school site. Thank you! YEAR 4 ART DISPLAY AT FRENSHAM FAYRE Our Year 4 children are entering their artwork into the Frensham Fayre this year, click here for more info. RESIDENTIAL TRIPS - LOOKING AHEAD We are very lucky that we have a large number of staff who are very happy to run school trips that enrich our school experience – including over weekends and holidays. We know that trips require a lot of planning and in general residential trips are scheduled a year in advance so that we can organise them and allow you time to plan/save as neede. Below is a live link to our working document that shows our plans so far. The further ahead the trip – the less details we may have – but hopefully it goes someway to help give the overview. 2023-2024 TRIPS THANK A TEACHER! As part of the reward for reaching the final, Arlo now has access to gaming expert mentors who can help him to develop this passion further as a hobby or even as a career. • 2021DecemberWeek3

THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM Thursday 16th December, 2021 CLICK TO NAVIGATE SCHOOL MESSAGES THIS WEEK AT SCHOOL SPORTS REPORT A MESSAGE FROM RICK Dear Parents The view from my office of the Surrey Hills has provided much needed relief as we have limped to the end of term. After the high in the last two weeks of being able to host the wonderful ‘Peter Pan’ and the spectacular dance and music concert in the Aldridge Theatre, to having to postpone and cancel all events this week, it has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I want to thank all those parents who have been supportive of the difficult decisions we have had to make, juggling our desire to run as many events as possible with the pressing need to protect the health and safety of the whole community. Plans for January Looking ahead to next term, we are planning for the worst, but hoping for the best! There is talk of a January lockdown, but what shape this may take is unknown. In the Senior School, we have asked all students to ensure that they take as many of their books, files and notes home as possible in case we have to revert to online learning. Staff are planning for this, in both the Senior and Junior Schools, but we are hopeful that this does not happen. I want to reassure you that we will do all we can to ensure that no learning is disrupted, building on the successes of our last period of online teaching and learning. Calendar Hopefully, you will have seen by now that we have published on our website the term dates up until the end of Summer 2023. As we are on the border of Surrey and Hampshire, we always need to look carefully at their published dates before we publish ours, balancing this with the HMC school dates too. We ask that parents stick to these dates when booking holidays and avoid as far as possible removing children from school. I want to mention, and I apologise for the short notice of this, that there will be an extra day's holiday at the end of February half term next term. We have a staff training day on Monday 21 February, so lessons resume on Tuesday 22 February. We have already written to boarding parents to say that if you are unable to change flights then boarders are welcome to return as usual on Sunday 20th February, and they will be supervised in the boarding houses on the 21st. Fee Invoices An important message from the Bursar and the Finance team. You will shortly be receiving your Spring term fee invoices by email and we want to remind you that we will never change our bank account details without plenty of prior notification. If you are ever unsure of the school’s bank account details or would just like to confirm them before you make a payment, please don’t hesitate to call the Finance Department on 01252 792299 or email us. We would also like to let you know that paying your child’s school fees by direct debit remains one of the safest ways to pay. If you do not have a direct debit set up and would like to arrange this for the Summer term fees, please get in touch via FeesAdmin@frensham.org If you do pay by direct debit, total fees (per your invoice) will be taken from your chosen bank account on the first day of every term. School Values You will be aware that we launched the new school values this term. We have been working hard behind the scenes on a number of ways of instilling these values across the school. On a practical level, we have used them in the Junior School to help with the creation of a new behaviour charter to help children understand their rights and responsibilities both in and out of the classroom. In the Senior School, we draw attention to them in weekly notices, departments have been looking at ways of incorporating them into their curriculum planning, and we have made them a part of any staff recruitment processes we have conducted this term, with specific focus on asking values-based questions of candidates. We sincerely hope that parents embrace our values too and on the whole, interactions with parents are nearly always positive and in the spirit of togetherness and mutual respect that is at the heart of Frensham. On rare occasions, these interactions aren’t as positive and I wanted to reassure you that we always aim to do the very best for the children in our care. Of course, we get things wrong sometimes, but by approaching issues with generosity of spirit the school, and the community around it will be enhanced and enriched. I want to end by thanking you again for your support. We are pleased that for the majority of the term we have been able to run things as close to normal as possible, and we have really enjoyed the opportunity to interact with parents on a number of occasions. We are planning further opportunities next term, COVID-dependent, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. Have a wonderful (COVID-free) Christmas and New Year with loved ones. Best wishes Rick RICK A MESSAGE FROM KATHERINE Dear Parents, I want to thank you for your support in what has personally and professionally been a tough term, we got there! I am so very sad that we are not finishing the term with all the children onsite. I want to wish all of our Year 5 and other children who are not in school well and we hope we can be back together in the New Year. Today we say goodbye to Louise Dixon who has been working in our Early Years at Frensham for almost 6 years. She is a kind, thoughtful and much-loved member of staff who we will miss terribly as she moves back in Nursing in the new year. Thank you for everything Louise and we will welcome you back to say a full goodbye with a full cohort of children and staff in January. I am looking forward to spending next term as a hand over with Nick as he will be taking over as Head of the Junior School at Easter when I move on. This time will support a smooth transition in what is an ever-changing national picture. Lastly, I wholeheartedly hope that each every one of our community gets to spend their Christmas with the ones they love because it really has been a challenging few years. Take care one and all! Take care, Katherine NOTICES SCHOOL MESSAGES Year 7 to 13 Lateral Flow Home Testing Kits and New Covid Guidelines Unfortunately, the lateral flow home testing kits have not arrived before the end of term. They will, however, be here for the start of next term and we will be able to hand out kits to students on their return. Students will also be tested on site before they return to lessons, unless exempt. More details to follow from Becks. You can get LFD kits from: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests Please Look Carefully at the Covid Flowcharts Below Communication Regarding January Start Times We will communicate with you on 6th January regarding any staggered start times for our January return. Enjoy! The videos will be available to watch until the new year. CLICK FOR THE ADVENT CALENDAR MUSIC & DANCE CONCERT We are so proud of all the students who performed in last week’s Performing Arts Concert. A welcome celebration and what better way to bring our theatre back to life. They were all stars, shining through a dismal and uncertain time to bring us some holiday cheer and make us all smile. Thanks to all involved, for your hard work, perseverance, and fabulousness!! N to 3: LIGHTS, CAMEL, ACTION - THE SEQUIN! On Monday Nursery – Year 3 performed their Christmas production to the children in Years 4, 5 and 6. The children had put so much effort into practising and learning their lines, the songs and all the moves – they were fantastic! They thoroughly enjoyed getting dressed up in their costumes and showing the results of their hard work. All the regular nativity characters were on stage in a Strictly style performance. There was certainly some razzle and dazzle as each group performed a song or a dance for the judges - the Smallest Sheep, the Funky Camel and Caesar and Augustus. A final ceilidh involved all the children celebrating the Christmas story together. YEARS 4 TO 6 CHRISTMAS SHOWCASE Although we were unable to have parents in the audience for our Years 4 to 6 Christmas Showcase, the children put on a great show for each other and their friends in Years N to 3. Year 4 put on a wonderful ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree!' and explained ‘How to Trap a Christmas Dragon’ with their funny poem recital! Year 5 enjoyed a ‘Hollie Jolly’ Christmas dance and recited some amusing letters to Santa! Folowed up with a wonderful musical rendition of ‘Frosty the Snowman’ - has a very shiny Ukulele! Year 6 delighted with a magical performance of 'Winter Wonderland' and performed their Winter Poems – written, choreographed, and performed by the children! Our junior ECA singers brought the show to close with their delightful rendition of ‘Turn down the lights’! MOSAICS ECA Here are the remarkable results from our Year 7 ECA. We've had a great time smashing tiles, making clay treasure and carefully aligning the mosaic pieces. Great work! Amy and Sonia TRIP TO HAMPTON COURT Years 1 to 3 went on a trip to Hampton Court last week! EARLY YEARS CERAMICS Early years went to the ceramics department and made Christmas tree decorations last week! YEAR 7 GERMAN Year 7 German students have been writing to Father Christmas (der Weihnachtsmann) in their lessons this week. Let's hope he writes back! JUNIOR SCHOOL FOOD BANK COLLECTION Thank you to the whole Junior School who have been bringing in food items for our local food bank. Members of Year 6 helped to pack and deliver the bags and boxes to Rowledge Church, our nearest food bank drop-off point. Reverend Russ was very pleased to receive them all and thanked the children for their help and generosity. CERAMICS ECAs Some wonderful final pieces from Ceramics ECAs including candle holders, animal coil pots and mugs. JUNIOR SCHOOL CHRISTMAS Today the Junior School all had a chance to meet Father Christmas in the outdoor classroom area. He answered lots of important questions - like how he gets into houses without chimneys - apparently by squeezing through cat and dog flaps. The teachers were asked to confirm that the children had been good this term, which they obviously all have. Father Christmas then quizzed them on the names of his reindeer and in return the Year 6 children tested his knowledge of languages (as he’d need them to travel around the world). He managed French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese and Russian, but struggled with Malay and Icelandic! They were sent back to their classrooms to finish off their Christmas lists with small presents that could fit in his sleigh. The children then had homemade Christmas biscuits and Father Christmas headed off through the woods to finish getting ready for the big day. SHAKESPEARE BOXES Year 8 have been creative in English producing their Shakespeare memory boxes. They were all outstanding. Becks, Alison and Noel had a tough job judging them! The over all winner for the Year 8 Shakespeare project was Luca (from Kate’s class). Runners up were: Olivia (the winner from Sam’s class). Scarlett (the winner from Amelia’s class). James (the winner from Zoe’s class). Well done everyone! FARNHAM HELP FOR REFUGEES Trish, from Farnham Help for Refugees, has just collected all of your numerous kind donations of food, stationary, clothing and even a bicycle to be taken to a local group of refugees. Your thoughtfulness and quick action on this will make others have a brighter Christmas. THIS WEEK'S SPORTS REPORT SPORTS REPORT Inter House Sport Week Over the past week we have completed several house events in Football, Netball, Dodgeball and Fitness. We take part in house events and points are awarded and contribute to the house cup at the end of the school year. Inter House Football Last Thursday, the year 7 and year 8 pupils took part in the annual end of season house football competition. The house competitions require a great deal of teamwork, leadership, organisation, and commitment from the pupils, and it is always great to see pupils demonstrate this when they come together in their houses. In the year 7 tournament, Douglas started strongly and continued this form to remain unbeaten in all their fixtures. Ensor and King battled it out for the runners up spot and it was taken by Ensor on goal difference. In the year 8 tournament, It was incredibly tight between Douglas, Ensor and King, all finishing the group stages on 6 points. Douglas and King progressed to the final on goal difference and Douglas took the top spot once again. Ensor took a well-deserved 3rd spot following a play-off to Nevill. Well done to Douglas on the two wins and well done to all houses on a great afternoon of football. Year 8 1st - Douglas 2nd - King 3rd - Ensor 4th - Nevill Year 7 1st - Douglas 2nd - Ensor 3rd - King 4th – Nevill House Fitness Challenge The inter house fitness challenge consisted of a circuit of the Astro as a house team taking part in various activities. GETTING TO SCHOOL BY BICYCLE Students in Years 7 and above can ride their bikes to school as long as they wear a helmet and ride in a safe and considerate way both on campus and off. Students must make sure their bikes are roadworthy - including working front and back lights - and they must take responsibility for their bike irrespective of who is riding it. B ikes should be parked in the bike racks provided. Junior School: parents are asked to use the Main Car Park, which is clearly signposted as you turn into Frensham Heights Road, and walk with your children to and from the Junior School. Some also take advantage of the café that is run in the Aldridge Theatre Foyer first thing in the morning (to coincide with drop off times) and in the afternoons (to coincide with pick up times). Years 7-13: we operate a one-way system for dropping off and picking up for students. There are a few spaces for limited waiting but please don’t use these for long-term parking. Many parents opt to use the Main Car Park, which is clearly signposted as you turn into Frensham Heights Road. Some also take advantage of the café that is run in the Aldridge Theatre Foyer first thing in the morning (to coincide with drop off times) and in the afternoons (to coincide with pick up times). Please try to use either the drop-off zone or the Main Car Park, rather than driving up to Main House and the Music School or down to the Studios and Art Centre. This is really to keep as many areas as possible free of cars at a time when many children are out and about on site and when staff are trying to park in the allocated staff areas. BY CAR Visitors: please park outside our Main House and head in to the reception to check-in. BY SCHOOL BUS 2024-2025 Bus Prices School transport is available to students from Year 7 upwards. Parents need to be aware that the buses are unsupervised and operate much like public transport. The full routes, times and costs can be found below. Places are booked on a termly basis but if there are spaces, you are welcome to enquire about an occasional place. We are always reviewing our bus routes so please do contact us if you are interested in a new route. If you have any queries about the bus routes please contact Ruth Wilde at ruthwilde@frensham.org . Year 5 or 6 children can ride the bus, but only with an older sibling and permission from the Deputy Head, as they will be unchaperoned. A message from the Director of Support for Learning If your child has had a previous or current specialist teacher, speech and language therapist or occupational therapist’s report, can you please ensure that we have this information in the Support for Learning Department. Equally, I would be grateful if you could please send in a copy of any Educational Psychologist’s report that you may have for your child. These reports are vital in informing class and subject teachers of relevant needs. - Beverley Wrigglesworth Director of Support for Learning A message from the Head of Boarding Full, weekly, 3 day flexi and occasional boarding are available to all our students from Year 7 upwards. Occasional boarding is adhoc on a first come, first serve basis - 2 days equivalent per week/per term for Years 7-9 and 1 day for Years 10 and up. The occasional boarding rate is £70 per night. We also offer a two week boarding experience to day students once in their time at the school. The cost for this is £500. -Sian Owens Head of Boarding A message from the Frensham Heights Library Find amazing people: come to the library. THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM Friday 17th November, 2023 CLICK TO NAVIGATE NOTICES EVENTS FRIENDS OF FRENSHAM THIS WEEK SPORTS REPORT CATERING NEXT WEEK A MESSAGE FROM ANDREW Dear Parents As we approach the end of another busy week, I wanted to thank so many parts of the community for their positive contribution to all our lives. For me the week really started with the Parent Voice meeting, a time when parents and the Senior Leadership team come together to collectively share discussion and thoughts about continually improving Frensham. The meeting was so positive – thanks also to those of you who gave the many, many pieces of positive feedback on the work of staff across the whole school. My particular thanks to Jo Bushill for her work as Chair, she is so professional, clear and driven by the desire to work collaboratively for the betterment of Frensham. I should also thank the Friends of Frensham, ably led by Gayle Horobin, for their fantastic fireworks night. It was organised, busy, fun and safe – a perfect mix from my point of view. The GCSE Drama students performed their assessed pieces mid-week, unfortunately for me it clashed with a Governors sub-committee, I know I would have loved to have seen their work and supported them; definitely will do next time! There was also an Informal Rock and Pop performance by some of the newest voices and singers from Years 7 & 8 and they were all so accomplished and so talented. Names and abilities to watch for in the future. Last night the Sixth Form team hosted a lovely Casino Night. The Year 11 & 12 students were enthusiastically shouting their successes on the ‘tables’ - croupiers flashing the cards and it was just a lot of fun! Thanks to all the staff who shared the work of croupier, looked after the students and set it all up. And now today we have welcomed 35 external students for the Sixth Form entrance day; they were nervous and excited and inquisitive. I am confident we shall see a really vibrant and full Roberts House next academic year. The external students were joined by many of our current Year 11s during the day, as they hosted lunch, led tours and took part in an escape room. Lastly, I have been out in lessons commending individual Year 8 students for their kindnesses, good manners, contributions to volunteering, positivity and engagement with their friends – this is what makes my day, and is something that I truly missed while away; the energy, openness, the kindness and the fun of sharing life with some wonderful children and young adults. Best wishes Andrew NOTICES A MESSAGE FROM NICK SAFEGUARDING UPDATE FROM JO AND JACK We have a date for the evening Online Safety Webinar this half term! This will be at 6pm on Wednesday 6th December. We will send out a proper invite soon. This is a repeat of the coffee morning before half term for any parents who were unable to make that time. We hope to see you online then! YEAR 11s INTO SIXTH FORM - click to read Flic's letter It was great to see so many families at our Sixth Form Open Evening in October and we are delighted to hear that many of our current Year 11s are considering us for Sixth Form. We are aware that there are questions about how to apply for the Sixth Form Arts Awards. Year 11 internal students will be invited to show their interest in the next couple of weeks and further details on the Arts Awards selection process will be shared with parents very soon. Additionally, you will have already received an email from Flic Bains regarding the 1:1 chats with a member of the Senior Leadership Team regarding next steps and future pathways for our Year 11 students (attached here). This is also an opportunity to talk about the Arts Awards and register your interest. Flic will be in touch with people over the coming week or two to confirm appointments. Please note there is no formal application for entrance into Sixth Form, although it does help us to know your intentions when it comes to planning for next year. AMBITION AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME - click for more info I am pleased to share with you the new Ambition and Enrichment programme. This is a rebrand of the Scholarship and Enrichment Programme and I am excited to be leading the programme and providing lots of exciting opportunities for the students. Subject ambassadors will be added to a subject specific team in the next week, where they will find any information on events that they can get involved in each term. Enrichment opportunities will be available for students across the whole school and information will be sent out as and when these opportunities arise. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. It is a tough event, with students all over the country taking part. We are delighted that the following students managed to earn themselves the following awards: Bronze Max Yr 12 Domnita Yr 12 Olli Yr 12 Max Yr 13 Youmin Yr 13 Morley Yr 13 Miles Yr 13 James Yr 13 Bronze and Best in Year Daniel Yr 12 Silver and Best in Year Arlo Yr 11 Silver and Best in School George Yr 13 Well done everybody! 1/1 MODEL UNITED NATIONS Last Saturday saw nine of our students from Year 9 to Year 12 take part in the RGS Model United Nations. Our teams represented Bangladesh, Spain and South Korea and debated topics from the right to protest to capping global warming in committee and the general assembly. Students greatly enjoyed the intellectual challenge and felt they'd built confidence in both their ability to present and to debate a point alongside a deeper understanding of geopolitics. Well done to the FHS teams, your teachers were very proud of your efforts. 1/6 DIWALI DANCE WORKSHOP We were very excited that West End in Schools Company visited N-6 on Tuesday 14 November to run their Ramayana Dance Workshop - perfect for Diwali 2023 which fell on 12 November! The Ramayana is the most well-known story told during Diwali celebrations. The great Hindu epic about prince Rama and his wife Sita has been shared orally and through dance for centuries. Important cross-cultural concepts like the power of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, freedom over oppression, and hope over despair are all touched upon. Led by a professional West End dancer, the children vividly imagined and physically embodied the different roles, dramatic situations and actions of the main characters in the Ramayana as they retold elements of the great Hindu epic story through dance. By retelling this famous story through dance, children demonstrated Frensham's values of being brave and creative. 1/44 REMEMBRANCE DAY Remembrance 23. This year we commemorated with a focus on 80 years ago and the use of strategic bombing with Operation Chastise, known to most as the Dambusters raid in May ‘43 and Operation Gomorrah on Hamburg in July ‘43. Our focus was on the Ethics of bombing civilians to shorten a war: targeting the factory workers rather than combatants. As a result how bomber command have been remembered. Their memorial at Hyde Park Corner was only opened in 2012 and Arthur ‘bomber’ Harris memorial has been a target of graffiti and derision. With a fatality rate of just under 45% the question had long been asked if Bomber Crew’s sacrifices were worth it. We brought the story up to date with an examination of the current conflicts in the world. All of this was done through the lens of interdisciplinary education, blending music, history, physics, ethics and current affairs with valuable contributions from Kevin Joy; James Casselton, Matt Burns and Charlie Bennett. So many questions can be answered with maths and physics. In this case to explain how Barnes Wallace's Upkeep Bomb, more commonly known as the bouncing bomb, would work. We explored how music is used to manipulate emotions of remembrance. As ever it was a privilege to guide the school through a journey of discovery, questions and reflections: as we remember those who shall not grow old whether in uniform or victims of war. JUNIOR SCHOOL REMEMBRANCE DAY Following on from an assembly, all the classes in Nursery through to Year 3 created their own class wreaths which were placed in the Junior School hall last Friday afternoon while the children listened to some Remembrance poems. Clive very kindly offered to take the wreaths up to the Rowledge War memorial where he placed them there on Sunday morning. 1/2 BOARDING ACTIVITIES Last week some of our younger boarders had the opportunity to design their own outfit using various fabrics and props, they did a great job. Students had the opportunity to play some sports hall games, use the fitness suite, art centre and play some house based fun games. Over the weekend the students went to the cinema. On Saturday there was a trip to Bath and the students who went on this trip had a great time stopping at stone Henge along the way and then seeing the sights Bath has to offer. The car booty sale wasn’t quite as good as the summer months with less stalls to search for goodies, so we will revisit this in the warmer summer months. 1/11 YEAR 5 GUIDE DOGS On Tuesday Year 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from Guide Dogs UK to link with their English poem ‘I Asked the Little Boy Who Couldn’t See.’ Two ladies came and spoke to them, one was a puppy raiser called Ann, who’s trained over 22 Guide Dog puppies, she brought her gorgeous dog Teal, who’d unfortunately not passed puppy training! The other lady was Mel who lives with a sight impairment, she brought her beautiful Guide Dog. Both ladies gave a really interesting insight into the world of the blind and the role that Guide Dogs play in that world. The children were absolutely absorbed by the ladies and their dogs, they listened intently to everything the ladies said and they asked amazing questions. I think they were most impressed by how independent Mel is and the amazing technology which helps her, and how clever the Guide Dogs are. 1/16 YEAR 5 TRIP TO THE V&A Another little blurb if you want it: Last week Year 5 went on a trip to the V&A Museum in London to look at artefacts from Ancient China to link with their topic of Shang Dynasty in class. The children were in awe of all the amazing displays, they did lots of observational drawing and looked closely at what materials would’ve been used for artwork throughout the ages (linking with our Science topic of Materials). The children were really respectful of all the fantastic artwork and of all the other visitors. 1/18 YEAR 5 BUNSEN BURNERS As part of our Science topic of Materials we are focussing on solutions and reversible and irreversible changes. Rich kindly did a Bunsen burner demonstration with Year 5 to show them firstly how Bunsen burners work, and then to show them a reversible change. We created a salt water solution and then Rich used the Bunsen burner to demonstrate how the solution can be reversed back to its original form of salt and water. The children thought it was magic! 1/7 SPORTS REPORT SPORTS REPORT Under 15s Netball v Ditcham Park The U15's had two competitive and physical games against Ditcham Park away. For the first game, Frensham were slow to start and needed to think about their timing and movement. After a regroup, Frensham came back with a succession of goals and took the win with a final score of 8 : 6. This games was quickly followed by a second. Each game was only 6 minutes each way, so the girls knew they had to bring their A game to the court. The second game was much more fluent and the girls played much better as a team, moving the ball quickly into the goal circle. With some excellent shooting by Anna, Sophia and Jemima, the final score of the second game was 13 : 3 to Frensham. Players of the matches were Maleah in defence and Adria in attack. I was super proud of them all today, so much talent and game development made by these girls today. Under 13s Netball v St Edmunds We have continued to be able to field 2 teams in Year 7 netball this term which has been fabulous. The girls have had lots of games, and our courts continue to be very busy on a Wednesday afternoon. This week the u12s took on St Edmunds. Team 1 played first. The improvement in all of the girl’s basic skills such as footwork and movement around the court since the first few weeks is noticeable. The passing around the court has also improved greatly with us just needing to try and cut out the final few loopy passes that appear. The centre passes were much better this week which meant the attackers were able to feed the ball into the circle efficiently to give several shooting opportunities. As ever our shooters were on top form scoring almost every opportunity. Our defence around the court was also strong leading to many turnovers. Team 1 came away with a well-deserved 11 -3 win. I was equally impressed with the improvements in team 2. Their basic skills have also greatly improved over the last few weeks. The footwork and passing are both improving each week, along with defending and turning over the ball. An area we will continue to develop is driving into space to receive the ball as we sometimes struggled to get the ball out of our defensive end. A great effort by all with the girls narrowly losing. Keep up the good work and commitment Year 7. 1/3 Under 13 Football v Alton On Monday evening the U13 football team played a small sided game against Alton on the Astro. This was a great chance to play a competitive fixture in the ECA time. The boys passed the ball with confidence and accuracy and are showing a clear understanding of how each other play. Frensham dominated possession from start to finish and this led to a string of chances that were put away brilliantly. In defence, the team was solid making some great challenges and blocks and playing the ball out from the back to start our attacks. This reduced the opposition to only having long range efforts. Frensham won the game 6-2. Well done all. 1/1 Under 15 Football v Sherfield The U15 football team faced a tough Sherfield side on Tuesday afternoon as they travelled away. The opposition started the game strongly and Frensham were quickly on the back foot as the Sherfield forward slotted home to go one up. Frensham then dug in a started to play the way they have all season with Leo commanding the back four and Adnan running the midfield. Chances came with Jack and Hayden but we couldn't find the cutting edge and went in 1-0 down at half-time. In the second half Sherfield scored two goals in quick succession to put the game beyond reach. However, Frensham didn't stop and gave maximum effort throughout, they dominated the last 15 minutes with waves of attack and Jack V scored following a rebound from a corner but unfortunately we ran out of time. Final score 3-1 Sherfield. 1/2 Waverley Cross Country Trials We took a group of 6 runners to the Waverley District cross country trials at Charterhouse on Thursday afternoon. The weather was wet, damp and miserable, perfect for a cross country run! The junior boys (year 9) ran a course of 4km, one lap of the sports field and then into the wood. The intermediate boys (year 10, 11 and senior) ran a course of 5km, one large lap and a smaller lap. All our runners gave maximum effort and showed a brilliant attitude. All results are recorded electronically, and we await placing. Those in the top standing will go on to represent Waverley borough in county competitions. 1/3 Under 10s Netball v St Edmunds A tricky game for our U9s, as St Eds used the space to their advantage and were quick to pass the ball. In the first quarter, St Eds succeed three goals even though our team were trying to keep the pressure on! In the second quarter, Frensham tried to hold their position on the edge of the D more, to try and slow St Eds but unfortunately, they still managed to succeed another three goals, finishing half time 6-0 down. The third quarter saw our team really working well together and clearing the ball away from our defensive end quickly. Passes were cleaner and sharper, allowing us to make our way quickly to the attacking third with time and space to shoot, enabling Isabel to score two goals! We continued this strong gameplay into the last quarter and made some great interceptions which stopped St Eds from making it to their attacking third, finishing 6-2. Well done to all that played and an extra well done to Woody for being selected as Player of the Match. 1/1 Under 10s Football v Barfield A very competitive game that ended in a 5-4 win to Frensham. Frensham started the game very fast with a few quick goals to go into half time in a comfortable lead. Barfield came back strong in the second half to level the scores however Frensham fought hard to get the final goal that sealed the victory. Amazing goal keeping by Mack, fantastic strong defence by Max, Angad and Ben, awesome distribution by Ethan, Remy and Clark and brilliant work upfront with Oscar and Ethan. Well done boys! Under 9s Football v Ditcham Park Frensham vs Ditcham Park U9 football match. After a very even 15 minutes Ditcham Park managed to score three goals within a couple of minutes resulting in Frensham going in behind into the break. Shortly into the second half Frensham managed to create three early chances with Lex bagging one and Aubrey scoring the other two. With the game moving into the dying moments, Frensham found the back of the net on two occasions resulting in Lex completing his hattrick. Ditcham shortly after got a goal back leaving the last couple of minutes at 5-4. Last attack of the game, Ditcham Park broke free but Thomas with an unbelievable save to keep the score at 5-4. The game finished in a 5-4 victory for Frensham. 1/1 OUTSIDE SCHOOL CATERING FRENSHAM KITCHEN NEWS FROM THE KITCHEN We’re very pleased to introduce Conor to the Chandco family, he joined us at the start of term as Head Chef and has hit the ground running. Being part of the Frensham community is exciting, learning is dynamic, teaching is inspiring and our Arts facilities are second to none. Founded almost 100 years ago by three women, the progressive ethos of Frensham continues to underpin all that we are. Built on respect and relationships, every student is supported and cared for in a way that enables them to become who they are, not who they are told to be. If you are interested in applying for a Frensham Heights Arts Award, please email admissions@frensham.org Awards will be allocated following a successful audition and/or portfolio interview process. 1/1 1/1 EXTRACURRICULAR & ENRICHMENT Students who are on the Frensham Heights Arts Award Programme will not only receive inspirational teaching from a highly skilled and talented staff, but will also be offered additional opportunities to develop and enhance their passion. Group enrichment would range from trips to the West End or London exhibitions to workshops led by professional performers and artists to support to help you mentor younger students and develop student-led performances or exhibitions. In the visual arts, students will have open access to the studios on weekends which will include the opportunity to work alongside our teachers and technicians – giving students the invaluable experience of watching creative professionals working on their own private or commercial projects. Bespoke paths will include ceramics focus sessions and life drawing workshops. As we build relationships with local and regional creative hubs, students will have the opportunity to take their theatre pieces, bands or artwork on the road to external performance or exhibition spaces. Under the Frensham Heights Arts Awards, we will expect students to not only take full advantage of the enrichment and extracurricular opportunities on offer, but also find ways to enrich the experience of the rest of the school community – for example, by directing student-led performances, supporting Junior School arts clubs or mentoring younger performers or artists. Being part of a through school - from nursery through Sixth Form - allows our older students to gain confidence, communication skills and solid experience by being mentors to our younger students. As a Sixth Form student at Frensham, students will also have access to the full extracurricular programme of clubs and trips. Please click here to view our current extracurricular club programme. EXTRACURRICULAR subject options OUR SIXTH FORM SUBJECT OPTIONS Students joining us through the Frensham Heights Arts Awards programme do not have to exclusively study visual and performing arts. Having graduated from Royal Holloway University of London with a BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre Studies, she worked extensively as a performer, director and writer for the stage, and behind the scenes as Production Designer for film and TV before becoming a teacher. She is an international award winning Face Paint and Special Effects make-up artist and was the Artistic Director for the London Borough of Hillingdon, taking their Our Town project to the Millennium Dome. As the Drama specialist for Waverley Borough Council, Amanda initiated and ran many projects within schools, youth organisations and geographical locations within the borough, including work on the Dream Party project alongside BAFTA nominated producer and director Lawrence Till. Amanda also worked as a writer and performer with the collective Words Allowed, and co-wrote a short film script for the Bristol based Jubilant Creations. As well as teaching, she has also worked extensively with young people in the Performing Arts across the South East as Director of Youth Theatre and creative project leader. Amanda believes that every student should have access to Drama and performance opportunities, and she enjoys working both within the curriculum and on extra-curricular projects across the school. Inspired by ground-breaking and non-traditional theatre, Amanda’s extensive knowledge of performance styles and genres has opened up challenging and exciting opportunities for student performance. She has introduced students to Immersive theatre, and senior school students have worked on site-specific, immersive productions in locations across the school campus as well as within the theatre. Co-written with students from Years 7-13, “The House on Heaven’s Hill” took over the school’s original Edwardian building, Main House, and returned it to a military hospital as it would have appeared in 1915, with every item of set, props and costume creating an authentic experience for an audience to explore. Amanda’s experimental Traverse staging of George Orwell’s 1984 was praised as a “brilliant production” by Michael Radford, the Director of the original 1984 film starring John Hurt, and her Senior School production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream saw an audience seated at picnic tables, complete with traditional 1950’s food and drink, in an auditorium transformed into a forest. During Amanda’s time as Head of Drama at Frensham Heights she has organised residential trips for students to experience a wide variety of Performing Arts, including puppetry in Prague, Shakespeare in Stratford-Upon-Avon, and a week-long intensive physical theatre project with Complicite in a French Chateau! She has also created a Senior Actors’ Company and worked on biannual projects with students to write and produce new theatre to take to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2018 The Scotsman called Amanda’s production of Going Underground “cleverly written….(the characters) brought to life with maturity and compassion”. Although Covid put a temporary stop to the Edinburgh Fringe project, Amanda is planning to revisit this as soon as possible. Amanda has enjoyed working as an Examiner for Performing Arts qualifications, and visiting schools and colleges across the south of England. While many of her students have gone on to enjoy high profile careers as performers and directors, she also believes firmly in the value of Performing Arts as a broader tool for success and self-confidence. Ashley Howard Ceramics Teacher Ashley studied at Medway College of Art and Design, now University for the Creative Arts. He built a career combining teaching with making. In 2001 Ashley studied for his Masters at the Royal College of Art. He has published articles on technical and aesthetic subjects. She completed her MA in Shakespearean Theatre from The Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-Upon-Avon in 2010 and went on to complete her Shakespearean acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 2011. Clare has always had a love of theatre and performance art. Through studying it and experiencing it all her life, her faith in drama as a subject and as a social tool has grown from strength to strength. To teach drama is to develop a critical awareness, develop an understanding of social contexts, as an expression of culture, and appreciation of acting as a craft. Alongside teaching and raising her young family, she is still a keen actor, appearing regularly locally in various performances with a much loved local amateur dramatics company. James Casselton Head of Faculty of Performance, Maths & Enterprise and Music Teacher James studied Music at Exeter University where he developed specialisms in choral conducting and musical theatre. He is also a passionate advocate for the importance of drawing in all creative areas, not only as a process leading to a final piece in another medium, but also as a means of expression in itself. As such Neil teaches life drawing to students in years 10 to 13 and also teaches extra curricular classes in drawing for design. Outside of school Neil is a fierce competitor in the sport of wheelchair rugby, is teaching himself computer aided design and manufacturing, enjoys making things out of wood, and battles with two teenage daughters and two energetic dogs. Anna Boon-Arnell Art Teacher Anna joined the creative arts team at Frensham Heights in 2021. She believes that the creative subjects in any school are a vital area and a key one to help students develop fully within themselves, educating the whole person, mind, body and spirit. Creative art subjects help to give students a sense of identity, self-expression, and self-assurance. Creativity is really another form of play, and play is universally important to each individual’s sense of joy and well-being. Anna completed her PGCE at Goldsmiths and has been teaching art and design for over twenty years including fine art, textiles, 3D design and photography. In her degree, she specialised in textiles, with a focus on textile printmaking creating highly structured repeat prints using the medium of photographic silkscreens. Post degree she worked for a time as a freelance fabric designer. She enjoys the creative journey through ideas and mediums both as a teacher and in her own personal practice. Anna has a passion for creative photography, noticing the mundane and capturing it within a frame. When out walking in nature her focus is on the effects of light on its surroundings. She creates mixed media artworks producing expressive / emotive responses to the environment. Brendan Horstead Head of Faculty of Art, Design & Innovation and Head of Department for Art, Ceramics and Graphics Brendan has led the Creative Arts at Frensham since 2008. He has been a resident member of boarding staff since joining the school and part of the Sixth Form Tutor Team for the last twelve years. Following a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art (Sculpture), Brendan spent several years running a small business making welded steel sculpture for exhibition and commission, alongside a variety of commissioned pieces for TV, film and theatre. Having completed a teaching post-grad qualification at Goldsmiths, London, he taught in the Sixth Form and FE sector and was ‘Head of Expressive Arts and English’ at John Ruskin College for several years before joining Frensham. As a teacher, he believes the challenge of personalising the experience of learning at A Level involves facilitating the expression and articulation of an individual’s unique creative voice. The development of this voice alongside a consciousness of intention and purpose, lies at the heart of this challenge and privilege. His ambition is that A level Art & Design students regard themselves, and each other, as members of a community of artists within the school, where all have a role to play in the creation of a positive, challenging, yet supportive, group dynamic and everyone is valued and accepted as an individual. His current personal practice involves the primary use of digital media utilising digital montage processes to explore varied subject matter of an aesthetic, philosophical or political nature. He is a keen drummer and percussionist of the ‘rock & roll’ variety and enjoys playing a with a group of greying rock and rollers in the sticky pubs of London. Hannah Fernandes Art Teacher Hannah enjoys instilling an excitement for Art in all children, exploring the creative challenges that lie at the heart of making, for both students and teacher. Her experience of education and teaching is broad and with great depth; following a degree in History of Art (with textiles and painting) she undertook a Masters in Photography, working at The Royal College of Art, London, and acquired a PCGE in Education from The Institute of Education, London. THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM Friday 17th March, 2023 CLICK TO NAVIGATE SCHOOL MESSAGES SCHOOL EVENTS THIS WEEK AT SCHOOL SPORTS REPORT FRENSHAM KITCHEN NEXT WEEK A MESSAGE FROM RICK Dear Parents Those who were in the audience at the Aldridge Theatre last night will agree that what we witnessed for the final dance show of the year was something that epitomizes what Frensham is all about. From the mesmerizing and inventive opening sequence to the joyous numbers performed by our youngest dancers in the Junior School, to the technical expertise of the exam pieces, the show was a wonderful showcase for the talent that we have in the school. It was an evening of beginnings and endings: many of the performers were our examination students performing for the last time, but we also saw some of the stars of the future in our younger dancers. It was also an ending for the driving force behind dance at Frensham for so many years. Although Bob Keane retires at the end of next term, this was his last dance show at Frensham, and he can be proud of an amazing finale to a wonderful career. There will be more formal opportunities next term to say goodbye to Bob, but last night was a chance to say goodbye from all of his dancers, and the tears and applause from performers and audience alike were a wonderful tribute to all that Bob has done. He will be much missed. Have a wonderful St Patrick’s weekend! Best wishes Rick A MESSAGE FROM NICK Dear Parents, Please walk this Sway to your JS Communication this week. THIS WEEK AT FRENSHAM THIS WEEK WE WILL SHARE PHOTOS AND REVIEWS OF THE DANCE CONCERT AND FRENSHAM'S GOT TALENT NEXT WEEK! SCIENCE WEEK This week has been science week with the National theme being Connections. During the week we have had quite a few different activities going n all based in science around the theme of Connections. Yr 7 and 8 have been building neurons out of sweets for Biology, in chemistry they have been looking at bonding and building molecules out of plasticine/modelling clay and in physics they were taking part in a national experiment and building batteries and investigating how to get the biggest charge. The junior school had a flash bang display by Rich Jones (one of our chemistry teachers) which they absolutely loved, including some volunteers getting set alight. Al this culminated in a ted talk style morning taklk presented by the wonderful staff. We had a series of 5min talks about a wide variety of topics, I bit like the Ted Talk style shows. It opened with one of our students (Ernest) playing the piano. We learnt from James how and why music is universal and how we can all recognise a love song, healing song, a dance song and a lullaby even from different cultures. Hannah explored the possible reasons why people commit violent crimes, link different theories to try and see the bigger picture. The connections between us and nature and the oceans, Flic was looking at conservation work with the whale sharks and manta rays, Amanda M was talking to us about the benefits of spending time in nature and the importance of seeking green spaces. Tim explained how we are all only 4 degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon and how social media has decreased these degrees from 6 steps. Lynn got the whole audience involved about connections between the left and right brain and the connections between body and mind and finished with Nick talking to everyone about why teenagers are grumpy, explaining the changes that go on in the brain and the fact that most of the brain gets rewritten during adolescence meaning teenagers are led by their emotions and reward rather than logic/planning and consequences. 1/23 1/8 NETBALL TOUR Last weekend 28 keen Frensham netballers headed to PGL Lidington for a weekend full of netball and outdoor activities. We haven’t attended this weekend since before COVID and it was exciting to return. We had Three teams competing over the weekend in the Year 8, 9 and 10 tournaments. The level of netball across the weekend was high and all games were highly competitive. The Year 8 team, which had a number of Year 7 students, played incredibly well all weekend. A number of the games were very close but in all but one game on the first day of competition Frensham came away victorious. The last game of the first day was very tight but the girls narrowly lost. This made the girls very determined on the second day as they really wanted to make at least the semi-finals. The girls fought very hard during their last two league games to secure victories and earn themselves a place in the semi-final. The semi-final was a close game, but the girls played fantastically beating a team they narrowly beat the day before to earn themselves a spot in the final. The girls were very nervous about the final as they had to face the same team that had previously beaten. At half time Frensham were behind by four and we thought it was perhaps a game to far after a very busy, tiring weekend, but how wrong were we! The girls came out after half time and played their best half of netball yet. The girls brought it back level and with 20 seconds to go scored the winning goal to be crowned competition winners. The girls all collected a medal and a team trophy for their efforts. A huge well done to Mia, Mila, Ivy, Sienna and Maria who were our Year 7s that played up brilliant against Year 8 opposition. A Huge well done also to Clara. Two students who really excelled for the team over the weekend was Kathryn and Georgia. The Year 9 team equally played some fantastic netball over the weekend. Again, some of the games were tight but the girls kept their cool and came away undefeated after the first day. The team played some of the best netball we have seen them play during the first day. The ball moved through the court effortlessly and Frensham quickly became known as a strong team amongst the schools. The girls picked up where they left off at the start of the second day playing some excellent, aesthetically pleasing netball. At the end of the league games Frensham were sat at the top of their league. A slight curve ball came at the semi-final stage when it became known that there was in fact another year 9 league running and we would be facing teams we hadn’t yet played. This didn’t seem to worry the girls and they continued their excellent run winning their semi-final comfortably. As expected the final was the most competitive game yet. The team they faced had the strongest defence we had come up against all weekend and it was more difficult to get the ball into the shooting circle. Despite fighting until the very last whistle the girls lost 12-6. Coming runner across two very competitive leagues was still an excellent achievement and the girls came home with a well-deserved runner up medal. A huge well done to Adria, Molly, Maddie, Maleah, Anabelle, Sophie and Jamie who played brilliantly throughout the weekend. A special mention to Georgia who played up with the Year 9 girls. Two students who really excelled for the team over the weekend were Jemima and Isobel who have formed an excellent partnership in attack. The Year 10 team had a slightly tougher weekend coming up against some very talented teams containing girls that play netball at club level as well as in school. The girls played well throughout the weekend but sadly just came up short in a few games narrowly losing by a few goals. They did have one excellent win that really lifted the team by the end of the first day. The girls knew they had to win both games on the second day to stand a chance of making the semi-final. The girls fought very hard and played some good netball but sadly couldn’t earn a win in their final two games, but again the score was very tight and on another day the ball would have dropped into the net instead of out making the result very different. A big shout out to Esther, Lulu, Lexi, Thea, Millie, Willow, Phoebe, Heidi, Grace and Matilda for their excellent effort throughout the weekend. When we weren’t playing netball the girls got to enjoy the outdoor activities. The giant swing was a big favourite for everyone sitting in the swing, but not so much for everyone else having to pull them up to the top. Despite the cold weather a number of the girls braved the climbing wall and other queue and do activities over the weekend. I know axe throwing was a hit with a number of the Year 10 girls. During the first evening the girls took part in quiz type games where one team got a throw a water bomb at an instructor, and another were named quiz winners. The second night provided the most fun with a silent disco followed by a Frensham dance off which was great fun for all involved. Thank you, girls, for a fun weekend of netball and dancing. Sian, Jo, Kate and Chrissy. 1/24 1/12 HAMPTON COURT Charlie Bennett took the Sixth Form Historians to Hampton Court. They are studying Stuart Britain. Hampton Court was used as a place to discuss religious reforms, a place of incarceration for Charles I following the first Civil War and it was remodelled and extended by and lived in by William and Mary. It is always of great value to apply knowledge gained in school to historical sites. It really brings the subject alive. In addition, visiting the Maze, the Real Tennis Courts and Gardens gave an insight into how the Stuarts recreated. Who knew that Charles I was actually one of the greatest tennis playing monarchs? 1/6 JUNIOR SCHOOL FRENCH PLAY Years 4,5 and 6 watch a fantastic French play performed by the Onatti theatre company in the Aldridge. The actors combined French and English in a sketch about a skiing accident that had pupils laughing and shouting out in true pantomime style! We also welcomed pupils from Rowledge and St Peter’s primary schools to join in the fun. 1/5 MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE MASTER CLASSES Last Saturday, Malika, Marta and Valerie invited MFL GCSE students from Frensham and beyond in to school for Spanish and French GCSE study skills masterclasses. The masterclasses were interactive and informative and we had some wonderful feedback from the parents of the students who came from other schools: "Thank you so much to everyone who organised and ran the event. It sounded really well structured and so helpful. They both got so much out of the class and said that they'll be able to apply this to their lessons/exams. The resources that they came away with look excellent and really helpful too. They're so lucky to have had the opportunity to attend the masterclass (and in such a beautiful setting too) so thank you for opening it up to non Frensham Heights students." "I just wanted to email to say a huge thank you for the masterclass on Saturday. My daughter came out buzzing, excitedly chatting the whole way home about everything she had learnt. Thank you so much for inviting children from other schools to attend and benefit from your fabulous teaching staff. She learnt so much from your wonderful teacher Malika and was delighted with the resources she was given to continue to work from. She really had a brilliant morning and it was wonderful to hear her so engaged in her learning. Thank you to everyone involved at Frensham Heights and for arranging such a motivational learning event and for extending the opportunity to the wider community too." "Thank you for organising such a fantastic event last weekend. My daughter came home on a real high and was so happy to have taken part. She took some valuable insights home with her, setting her up well for her GCSE studies. Thank you to everyone involved. The only problem we have now is that she’d love to start at Frensham :)" ECO UPDATE A group of our students were treated to an inspiring talk at Charterhouse Sustainability Conference on Tuesday evening. Part of our Science Week offering and our continued drive to educate our students about real world issues, the keynote speaker, Scarlett Benson both informed and inspired. It was reassuring to hear that a sustainable future for all living on our planet is possible, but slightly more daunting to learn that in order for this to happen 1.2 billion hectares of agricultural land needs to be returned to nature, that’s an area the size of Europe! Our students asked some great questions and will continue to discuss ideas in lessons this week. Scarlett Benson, World Resources Institute, Director of Standards of the Food and Land Use Coalition, leading the Science Based Targets Initiative’s work on Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM) and member of the Steering Committee of the Science Based Targets Network Land Hub, developing nature science-based targets for land to the Charterhouse Sustainability Conference 2023. Meanwhile, the Worthy Earth Project begins with Year 7 students next term, growing vegetables and learning about sustainable connections to nature, our Eco Heights group are planning an informative display about ethical and sustainable fashion and next Friday our morning talk will be delivered by Holroyd Howe, our caterer’s, sustainability officer. They’ll be discussing the impact on our environment of growing food. Holroyd Howe will have a demo stand about food waste on display at lunchtime. Students can also be invited to join a food sustainability discussion/workshop. If your child is interested in joining this discussion, please ask them to contact either Amanda McCallum or Jack Talman. Our charity group have been working on a sustainable clothing project. Continuous clothing collections have allowed us to send clothes to Farnham Help for refugees via the charity called Global Aid Network UK(GAIN), provide a pop up shop to support our local Ukrainian friends for 7 months and generally help those in need locally. The NEW project - we are teaming up with Cherry Trees charity and have launched a design competition ahead of our family fun day here at Frensham, Self-Expression Safari. Please click here for more information on the design competition and save the date of 1st April for our next workshop. Come along and use existing clothing to make new wanted items and help us develop adaptive clothing in the fashion industry!! GREENPOWER Like Limp Bizkit said in the year 2000 (so my parents tell me) We are rollin rollin rollin. This week we got both axles fitted and the rear wheels. This is a big step forwards and our fancy coloured bathtub is now looking like a race winning green machine. David, Richie and Sully tested our communications, we still have a few problems to iron out but we are making real progress with the Comms. During the workshop mayhem we decided to take a team photo! Remember these faces, we will be running Red Bull soon. Team Profile: Elijah Name: Elijah Likes: Football, go karting, formula one, mountain biking, racing simulators, supercar driving, swimming, sports, creating things Dislikes: Mushrooms, pickles, olives! Favorite subject: PE and DT Why I applied: I am interested in car racing. I went to see the green power car in year 6, learning a bit about it, how it was built and what the plans were for racing. I am really interested in learning more about my role as engineer and being involved in the team. Written by Juno (7TJJ) 1/2 BUDDING GAMES DESIGNER Budding games designer, year 10 Student Arlo F has impressed his computer science teacher with his efforts in creating unique computer games using the Unity Games Engine. So much so that Sarah suggested that Arlo should represent the school by entering the BAFTA Young Games Design Award. Keen to rise to the challenge, Arlo created a game from scratch called Bird in the Woods. All the artwork, sound and code used in the game is Arlo’s work and the concept is completely original. His computer science classmates had lots of fun testing the game out today and it’s creating quite a buzz around the class. The BAFTA Young Games Design award is an initiative ran by BAFTA that inspires and supports young people to create, develop and present their new game idea to the world. Prizes include gaming goodies as well as mentoring sessions from industry experts. We must wait until June to see if Arlo has reached the final so keep an eye on this newsletter for an announcement in a couple of months’ time. To have a go at playing Arlo’s game, go to his itch.io site here: https://squidlydiddly.itch.io/bird-in-the-woods Next year the plan is to start a club to encourage more students to enter through an ECA that will support students with the process of games design. For further information about the competition and categories available click on the link: BAFTA Young Game Designers | BAFTA YGD If there are any parents who have knowledge of the games industry who would like to come and talk to some of our budding games designers, contact Head of Computer Science, Sarah Cull. 1/2 SPORTS REPORT SPORTS REPORT U13 Mixed Hockey vs More House This weeks game was on our home pitch against More House. The team were very excited and wanted to get playing right away. The first half was brilliant from both teams, there were some great passes up and down the pitch as well as some great dribbling from Georgia and Kathryn pushing for their first goal of the game. Frensham’s defence was very strong throughout the game with Nell, Matilda and Jackson at the back closing More House down as soon as they came close to our ‘D’. Unfortunately, towards the end of the first half More House managed to make it through and score their first goal of the game. Frensham worked really hard to try and make it a draw but More House had a very strong defence who were closing us down before we were able to get a shot on goal but it did not stop Frensham trying. After a quick team chat and a change of positions we were on to the second half hoping for a goal. Sully was brilliant upfront, always offering an option to the rest of the team. Johnny showed great dribbling skills moving up the pitch with a lovely pass off to Kathryn and Georgia who played the ball brilliantly through to Sully. It was a great game to watch and the whole team looked like they were really enjoying themselves. The final score of the game was 1-1 to More House. Well done to everyone that played! U15 Mixed Hockey vs More House This weeks game was against More House on our home pitch again. The team were ready for another great game and hopefully a win. The game started off strong with both teams putting in 100% and working hard to be the first to score. It was a great competitive game, you could tell both teams wanted a win. Even though it was competitive both teams were supportive of each other and it was great to see such great sportsmanship. Thea, Will and Elliott were very strong at the back and Hayden in goal made some brilliant saves and were making it very difficult for More House to score. Leo, Sophie and Benjy were in the middle and played extremely well moving the ball up the pitch with some brilliant passes between the attack. Luke was upfront and had an exceptional game scoring five of our goals and with Leo following him with another two goals. More House played some brilliant Hockey too and managed to score their first goal of the game. At half time it was 5-1 to Frensham. With some changes to positions we were on to the second half. In the second half I gave the team some personal targets for them to try and meet. In the second half Elliot moved upfront with Leo moving back into defence. Elliot’s positioning on the pitch was brilliant and Leo played some fantastic passes through the midfield straight to Elliot. The second half was coming to an end, but in the last couple of minutes of the game Leo played a brilliant ball through to Elliot. Elliot controlled the ball and hit an amazing shot in to the back of the goal. It was a great game and the team should be very proud of how they conducted themselves. Well done to everyone that played! U10 Mixed Hockey vs St Ed’s This weeks match was against St Ed’s, the team were very excited and eager to start. From the start it was clear that this might be a tough match. St Ed’s started off strong and really tested Frenshams skill. St Ed’s started pushing towards our goal trying to score. The team worked really hard to stop the ball from getting into the ‘D’. Edith did some fantastic defending and cleared the ball out brilliantly to Maela and Rudi who were playing midfield and up front. Maela did some brilliant dribbling up the pitch with the help of Rudi and Betty. The team worked really hard to score their goal but unfortunately St’s Eds defence was really strong and managed to break down our attack before entering the ‘D’. St Ed’s managed to score their first two goals of the game and then it was time for a quick half time chat. After a couple of targets for the team we were back on for the second half. Ethan played brilliantly at the back stopping a fantastic shot from the St Ed’s attackers. The team worked really hard throughout the whole game and did not stop trying. It was great to see the team so supportive of each other and everyone played really well. The final score of the game was 4-0 to St Ed’s, Frensham should be very proud of how hard they worked. Well done to everyone that played. U11 Hockey v St Edmund's The U11 Hockey team were back in action on Wednesday afternoon, following the disappointment of not being able to attend the Churcher's College tournament due to the snow. St Edmund's were the visitors this week and proved tough opposition. They started the game stronger, playing some nice hockey and took their chances to take a 2-0 lead at half-time. Two goals shortly followed after the break, and it looked as though it wasn't going to be our afternoon. However, the team dug in and started playing hockey the way they have been in recent wins, passing the ball with accuracy and playing quickly from the restarts. George and Kyle both got on the scoresheet to make the score 4-2, but unfortunately, we ran out of time to mount a comeback. Well done to all involved. U9 Hockey v Alton The U9's returned to hockey following their recent rugby fixtures and were full of enthusiasm and energy going into the game. Alton were the visitors and brought a large squad and we were able to play lots of games. On Rory's pitch there was some impressive hockey with the team picking up two wins and one draw. Amelie put in a brilliant defensive display making a brilliant goal saving tackle in the second game and Clark and Ethan got on the scoresheet. On Lloyd's pitch the team picked up two draws and a loss, with Mack playing well in midfield to link between attack and defence. It’s brilliant to see the progress the teams have made in hockey this term and we look forward to our last game of the season next week to St Edmund’s. Well done all. U15 Basketball v The Royal It was another really good display from the team with some excellent attacking play from all the players. We led throughout the game but it was very close up until the last quarter when we pulled away with two excellent 3 pointers from Jack. We ended up winning the game 23-10 with 7 of the team scoring points. We really have developed as a team this term and the improvement in all the players is great to see. U13 Basketball v St Eds We played some excellent Basketball in this game showing real dominance when rebounding and we are learning to start to create a more measured attack making sure we find someone who is open to take the shot. Special mention for Derin’s defensive play which broke up so many St Eds attacks and it was great to see that nearly everyone on the team scored points, with Barney scoring 2 great baskets and Harry B scoring an excellent 3 pointer. We ended up winning 29-10. Under 18s Football v More H ouse A final game for many Frensham Heights students from the first team. The boys started really well and were physical and created a few chances. After More H ouse took the lead Charlie scored a outstanding goal from around 30 yards, curling nicely into the top corner away from the goalkeeper leaving him no chance. Charlie scored a second goal from the penalty spot towards the game. However, more house were a little stronger today winning 6-2. The boys played until the final whistle and could not be faulted for commitment and work rate throughout. Those boys leaving us will be missed greatly. Under 15s Girls Football V Bedales and St Edmunds We hosted two teams this week in a great afternoon of girls football. We started out against Beadles and won the game quite comfortably. On a small pitch playing 7 a side its always more difficult to score but we did run out 3-1 winners with goals from Heidi and Lulu. St Edmunds also beat Bedales and when we played St Edmunds we decided to use a full pitch and go 10v10 we made for a great game. With much more space it was great to see the girls have urgency, physicality, and a desire to get the ball moving forward quickly. Sophia made some great saves in goal, Willow with a fantastic defensive display, Lulu showing speed and desire to win every ball to name just a few highlights from a terrific match. We lost 2-1 in the end after a late penalty to St Edmunds for handball. Well done girls! Under 12/ 13s Hockey v st Ed’s Under 14s v More House Under 13s v More House Staff & Sixth Formers Badminton Tournament Massive upset this week in the Staff/Sixth Formers badminton tournament. Defending champs Lloydy/ youmin lost to Sam and Giles 21-19 in an epic battle. It only feels right Giles …”Head of DT “ won because he did engrave the trophies!! . • Who We Are | Frensham Heights

At Frensham, we leave as we come – as individuals – but in our time here, we become more. We become stronger. Kinder. As the school approaches its centenary, it is clear that Frensham is bigger than any one of us, from our founders to our newest family; it is all of us. We are Frensham. WHO WE ARE OUR VISION: we are empowering tomorrow’s changemakers to find their inspiration today through a transformative education. Vision OUR MISSION. We continue to pioneer a better education, one which: celebrates the individual as part of a nurturing and supportive community; amplifies the voices of our community, encouraging self-expression and sharing of ideas; brims with inspiration from strong relationships with outstanding educators in a stimulating environment. OUR AIMS. We will: provide a nurturing and supportive community that allows all individuals to flourish, with equity, mutual respect and generosity of spirit at its heart; inspire our students’ creativity, intellectual curiosity and passion for learning with a rich progressive curriculum that develops resilient and self-reliant learners, prepared for the modern world; promote education in its widest sense, with stimulating and unique enrichment opportunities; instil and support collaboration, ethical responsibility and community engagement, encouraging our community to make a positive and lasting contribution to the world around them; thrive by securing the future of our school and its communities. OUR VALUES ORIGINALITY OF THOUGHT FRENSHAM EMBRACES CREATIVITY We encourage everyone to foster their boldness and innovation, seeking opportunities locally and globally to discover and bring fresh thinking to our community. SPIRIT OF TOGETHERNESS FRENSHAM NURTURES COMMUNITY SPIRIT Relationships are the foundation of our school and our success, built on genuine mutual respect, compassion and kindness. We embrace freedom with a firm understanding of our responsibility towards our community. RESPECT OF INDIVIDUALITY FRENSHAM CELEBRATES AUTHENTICITY This is a place where you can be the ‘true you’; we pride ourselves on that. We support all to have the confidence to stand for something and be the person you truly want to be. COURAGE TO TRY FRENSHAM FUELS PERSONAL DEDICATION We aspire to be the very best we can be, fully committing to our learning, proactively seeking improvement and working collaboratively for the benefit of the whole community. OUR HERITAGE Frensham Heights was founded in 1925 by educationalists Beatrice Ensor and Isabel King with the aid of a generous benefactor, Edith Douglas-Hamilton. They were passionate about offering an alternative style of education with the child at its heart. A school and a community based on mutual respect, tolerance and generosity of spirit which would educate the whole child – mind, body and spirit. And so it has been ever since. Our founders were not alone in this aspiration. Many other schools were founded around the world during this period as part of the Progressive Education Movement which sought to offer something truly different to the formal, instructional-style of teaching found in most traditional state and private schools. Schools were founded as compassionate communities not only under the strong belief that educating the whole child was essential, but also as democracies with children taking an active part in their education – championing independent thought, exploration and student voice. Even through a war and more recently through a pandemic, Frensham has sought to lead with compassion and with a belief in each child and the good of humanity at its heart. PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION TODAY Although relatively rare in this country, Progressive Schools are thriving around the globe. We are very proud to be a member of the international Progressive Education Network. This is important to us not only because we truly believe this style of education offers children a better chance of happiness and success, but also because it holds us to account as a school, as educators. By promising to uphold not only our school’s founding ethos, but also the PEN principles, we have a better chance of continuing to offer the best possible opportunities for our students. As many more conventional schools catch on to the importance of the ‘soft skills’ and creativity, that have been intrinsic to schools like Frensham from the beginning, we must continue to set an example and pioneer education. We must keep moving forward to provide the most dynamic, inspirational Progressive curriculum that we can. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT PEN
