Welcome to Fireflies Nursery, a vibrant and nurturing early years setting nestled within the beautiful grounds of Frensham Heights School in Surrey.

We are now open year round (48 weeks) and if you need a longer day or flexible hours, we are open 7.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. We also accept 15 & 30 hours funding. Our new hours and options are now available. See Nursery fees.

The Fireflies

Our youngest learners may be small, but they are a big part of life at Frensham Heights. In Fireflies Nursery and Preschool, children are encouraged to follow their curiosity, explore freely and play with freedom. It’s here that their sense of wonder grows and their love of learning first takes flight.

Fireflies is an education that keeps imagination alive and curiosity glowing. Children learn that their thoughts matter, their voices are heard and that school is a place filled with joy, kindness and adventure.

From Little Learners to Confident Explorers

Our Fireflies are fully part of the Frensham community. They use the same beautiful facilities, eat in the same dining hall and perform on the same stage as our older students. They are known, valued and included at every step and this is how their confidence starts to grow and blossom.

We celebrate individuality. Our skilled Early Years Team uses a Planning in the Moment approach, responding to children in real time and turning their ideas into meaningful learning. Every activity is designed to be engaging, playful and purposeful. A child fascinated by Bonfire Night might find themselves exploring light and shadow, mixing hot and cold colours, listening to new sounds or even visiting the photography darkroom. No doubt then all topped off with marshmallows at the Forest School fire pit!

A Day at Fireflies Nursery & Preschool

Our days are shaped around the children - their interests, their energy and their ideas. With Forest School and outdoor adventure, creative arts and specialist sessions in French, PE, Music, Drama and Dance, every day brings something new.

Whether they’re climbing trees, painting masterpieces or visiting our friendly chickens, ducks and goats, Fireflies children enjoy a world full of discovery and a wide variety of unique experiences.

Pastoral Care

Just like every Frensham child, our Fireflies are recognised as individuals, each with their own pace, passions and personality. Our Early Years team knows each child deeply and thoughtfully adapts to their needs, ensuring every day is meaningful, enriching and full of warmth.

Frensham Heights is built on mutual respect. Staff model kindness, patience and genuine attentiveness, creating a culture where every child is heard and valued. With small class sizes and excellent ratios, children have the space to grow, thrive and become confident, joyful and excited learners.

Transitioning into Reception Class
from Fireflies

We don’t want our children to grow-up too quickly and therefore use both Reception and Year 1 as time to transition happily and comfortably from the Fireflies space. Planning and Play in the Moment is still a massive part of our Reception class and the start of Year 1 and gradually this becomes more interspersed with learning moments of phonics, number work and increasing exploration of specific projects from our Junior School Curriculum.

Our Fireflies Team

Our EYFS staff are knowledgeable, creative and highly qualified, from Level 2 practitioners to postgraduate specialists. They thrive on children’s imagination and energy, creating a learning environment that is playful, stimulating and full of life.

Capturing the Journey – Famly

We use Famly to create a rich, personal record of every child’s learning. Photos, videos and diary entries allow parents to stay connected to their child’s experiences, from first steps in the Nursery all the way through Preschool and into their primary education. Updated weekly, this journal strengthens the vital home–school relationships and celebrates each child’s unique journey.

Outdoor Adventure

Our trained forest leaders introduce children to the magic of outdoor learning. With freedom to explore, take small risks and discover the world around them, children develop confidence, curiosity and self-awareness. Every adventure is carefully designed to match their age, stage and sense of wonder.

Fireflies Nursery is open all year round (48 weeks), from 7:30am to 6:30pm.
Our highly trained staff are passionate about encouraging your child's growth and development.
Our friendly on-site chickens and goats offer a truly special learning experience!
Specialist teaching in French, Drama, PE, Music, Dance, and Art.
Nutritious lunch and snacks are all provided and prepared fresh onsite, plus breakfast and tea for those longer days.

We are open 7:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays and excluding the dates listed below.

Christmas 2025: Monday 22nd December 2025 to Thursday 1st January 2026

Easter 2026: Monday 30th March 2026 to Monday 6th April 2026
